Real investigative journalism in a small, rural town has financial and social consequences when you stand up to those in power.

You cannot have independent media, especially in a small, rural town when you have certain corporations dictating news based on revenue. You have certain local publishers with no journalism background. You have local "media" more interested in being popular and passing off entertainment as news. Many advertisers and businesses that do not support independent reporting.

All this contributes to silence and intimidation of ordinary citizens for decades.
