EPD prostitution sting results in three arrests including a woman from Florida and one from Redding

On July 12, 2017, between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., Detectives with the Eureka Police Department's POP team conducted an undercover operation in the vicinity of the 1300 block of 3rd Street.  The operation was in response to multiple citizen complaints regarding the on-going and blatant criminal activity perpetrated by prostitutes.

The details of the operation will remain confidential so as not to compromise future operations. During the time frame indicated, the following subjects were transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

18 year old Morgan Kayla Vinson from Florida was arrested for prostitution and for providing false information to the police.

50 year old Elisa Yolanda Carlson from Redding was arrested for prostitution, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

65 year old Leanne Duffitt from Eureka was arrested for prostitution, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Eureka Police Department's POP team will continue to conduct these types of operations in the future. While this particular operation targeted the prostitutes, future operations will also target those soliciting the services of the prostitutes.

  1. In 1970's the prostitutes were everywhere. Nothing changes no matter which decade we talk about past or current. The ID always wins.

    1. you make it sound like humans are just human, camelg1,

several yrs back i went to a talk at fern cottage - a woman spoke about her research and her book about the lives of prostitutes in humboldt co during the mid 1880s. they lived hard lives they actually were the earning much more than the rest of our populace. and they had job security, at least unto they got too old to be a working "girl" any longer.
remember there was no social security then, but then again growing old was rare occurrence.
if a women had worked for a madam, she was "retired" to a house away from the brothel. they were allowed to live out their lives in home owned by the madam and occupied by other retired woman, caring for the children of prostitutes and keeping house.

i was just reading, too, about eureka's chinatown and the chinese that made eureka their home. their lifestyles and how they also had prostitutes they sent for from their homeland for their working men.

the woman claimed that the prostitutes of that era were strong woman who were proud they lived without being a housewife nor having to rely on a husband for financial support and spending money.

the history of the humans of this beautiful place is fascinating and sometimes horrific.

here is an interesting and rather quick read about the chinese living in eureka, their lifestyle, how they perceived and treated by eurekians, and their forced eviction from the town.
