Just who is the good ole boy network in Humboldt?

Funny how certain local media that loves to label certain businessmen and women, and question every business move they make, especially if they are appointed to County Commissions don't have the same problem pointing out any "conflict of interest" or questioning City of Eureka appointments.

Some of it is because certain "investigative" local media have no clue or real knowledge of anything happening behind the scenes. Some of it is they don't care. They do what those that fund their paycheck require, screw the community.

Eureka developer Kelly Martin is on the City of Eureka Development Commission. He owned the building on Fourth and Commercial that burned down last July. He owns a lot of properties in Eureka.

Is that his qualification for being on the Commission? That he is a developer and owns a lot of buildings? In comparison to his investments and wealth, how many jobs per year has he created and how many employees does he have?

Martin like, many, who own land in Humboldt or buildings are cashing in on the cannabis real estate "boom." So what, if non cannabis related businesses have to make way for the new "green rush."?

Screw those non cannabis businesses that paid taxes for years and employed people.

I don't have a problem with Kelly. There are others who make a lot of money from the City, the County, get most local contracts yet do not invest back in the community with the jobs they should; they just keep getting wealthier and then keep anyone they want from competing.

Kelly is just one obvious example of how certain local media ignore and pick who they cover, who they demonize, and as long as you fit into certain criteria, making money is okay.

Only the TS and North Coast News reported on non cannabis businesses being replaced for pot related operations or businesses.

In Humboldt, the good ole boy network includes more than just conservatives and more than just men. It definitely includes certain apathetic media that could care less about real investigating or take on those in power.

I  sure with all this projected income from cannabis, Humboldt's homelessness and joblessness and revenue problems will disappear and if you believe that, I got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

People who don't live here and people who are respected in media, politics and businesses nationally, read this blog. They like the insights, get it, and they are paying attention. It has been affirming to get that feedback.

If Humboldt hasn't changed, has problems, and is economically depressed, it is because those who have no vision, no talent,  no business sense, create no new jobs, keep being in charge. Mediocrity reigns because some either inherited and grew rich or play both sides, criticize weed while profiting from it or marry into it. Others hand over businesses to their children because that is the only job they know their kid will get. Never mind that they run the family business into the ground.

You have a few local businessmen and women and elected officials trying to make a difference in a difficult situation.

Those are the ones that get attacked, be it anonymous blogs or certain clueless "media."

Media is there to provide information, not cater to the polarizing left and right and their agenda. Nationally, voters get it. In Humboldt, who is watching out for the people? Change will happen only if local media exposes the real issues and those keeping Humboldt just the way it suits them and their pockets.

Funny, it looks like the failing NCJ covered this issue well before the T-S or North Coast News... and even mentioned Kelly specifically.

    1. Nice try. You pick the one link when it shows that NCJ did one article before KAEF and TS. Even if I give you that technicality, I am not wasting time looking up and researching printing selective links or several links where NCJ has been weeks and months later on reporting stories others did, this topic has been discussed before, it isnt an original NCJ came up with. When I said only TS and KAEF reported, I did not say first article to appear. Only TS and KAEF did followups on the effects. Not like the NCJ article which just mentions Martin declined to comment. And then prints raves from the one business making it seem being displaced is no big deal. Hardly a piece taking on those in power. I have previously pointed out many instances where NCJ piggy backs on others reporting stories first or they dont cover stories that might piss off growers/canbabis.

  2. NCJ are the real journalists, John Chiv. You are but a troll. Want proof? You won't post this comment because you have no defense.

    1. Nice try but next time you will go to spam. If you are so confident, why not use your real name? You could be NCJ or connected to them. Real journalists dont ignore stories that could impact their friends or advertising revenue. They have three people there working there, weekly publication, get paid, and do shit for real news. You could also be one of the local leftie sheeple who thinks your views is news. Real journalists have and can work outside their little Humboldt clique and outside Humboldt. They dont need to move from one publication to another in this county. Also trolling is you jumping on every post that exposes the truth in Humboldt thinking your opinion matters.

    2. In Humboldt, certain people use words like troll and claim violations of Brown Acts without a clue to what anything really means.
That would actually require you having a brain, instead of just going into auto pilot to defending because of your partisan view.

    1. I would have, maybe, in the past when Hank was editor and Ryan wrote for NCJ because even though I disagreed with them on some issues, I thought NCJ did better reporting. But I cannot stand NCJ's publisher and since those early days, my opinion of Hank, Ryan and Thad (who used to be at TS) has changed. I have done mainstream journalism in the past in bigger cities. Today media has a worse reputation than lawyers and for good reason.

We have good reporters and editors in this town who do their best despite shitty corporate management and pay. I would not write for any publication in Humboldt. Regionally again, maybe, nationally again, maybe but for now this blog keeps me busy. Thanks for your confidence.

  6. TS' Will Houston and Hunter Creswell, who we are very lucky to have here. They would both do well anywhere.
