The press release about the temporary closure was sent out promptly yesterday and the County and HCSO informed the public but did not identify the person or specifics of the threat. They may have had their reasons. This random guy posts a photo and makes claims no one can verify. What consequences does he face? I have sent this to Sheriff Wiliam Honsal and documented it in the post in case Derek decides to delete it. This isn't some drive by, take a photo of a collision. The TSA was involved.
Some of the local keyboard warriors who have no clue on laws or journalism but routinely blather about legitimate news and public documents with evidence which media can post and the same miserable haters who brushed off a local journalist being arrested because they just want to own the libs or have a bias in the Cal Poly debacle are fine with this rando taking pictures. Derek, do you know the age of this "kid?" Media and government know the rules they need to follow but randos can post unverified, unsubstantiated claims? None of you could flag this or bring it to someone's attention?
Does LOCO check their facebook page? It is not moderated or checked often. It has been three hours. It is a pain to check and do moderation but they have more staff and freelancers than other local media yet we manage to moderate and don't leave comments like this one for three hours. If we did, at least we would have a reason because we post more content, often live and faster than LOCO.
Joanne, thank you for another perspective to the Cal Poly adninistration spin. Joanne posted this comment in the post about the airport closure and unlike Derek stated her opinion. She didn't take a photo of the father and daughter and post it on social media. Unlike Derek, Joanne actually contributes with her comments on a regular basis. Derek, instead of whining about your temporary inconvenience, thank HCSO and TSA for their caution and your safety. Other passengers who commented did not identify the passenger.
Derek also posted on McKinleyville Community Watch.
This is what leads to the City of Eureka and other press releases correcting unverified information on Facebook from randos like Derek.
