U.S. Forest Service employee charged with attempted murder, assault and domestic violence

I did two posts on Matthew Salmon last week. He was arrested for the attempted murder of his wife. I followed up with Eureka Police Department after the arrest.

Salmon was arraigned on 12/22 for PC 664/187 (a) attempted murder and special allegation PC 12022 (b) (1) that he used a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime, PC 245 (a) (1) assault with a deadly weapon and special allegation PC 12022 (b) (1) that he used a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime and PC 273. 5 (a) domestic violence. Public Defender's office was appointed.

The deadly weapon is a knife. The alleged victim is referred to as Jane Doe in the complaint.

OR/bail was on 12/27 was off calendar since Salmon posted bond. Bail was set at arraignment for $105,000.

Preliminary hearing for January 4 was vacated; defense continuance granted. Preliminary rescheduled for 1/18/23.

I just got this email from a reader. The reader confirmed my previous reporting that Salmon is a St. Bernard's graduate and is employed by the U.S. Forest Service.

"Hello,

I saw your post on your blog. I went to school with Matt and knew him well up until recently.

He did indeed graduate from St. Bernards in 2007 and currently works in dispatch for the USFS in Eureka.

He is staying in Fortuna with the person that bailed him out of jail, his entire family is very against him being out. He is known to be very violent as he was extremely abusive to his ex-wife.

Preliminary hearing is January 4th.

You should send your post to the social media news channels so the public is aware as it hasn't made the news yet on Facebook or TV.

He is a very dangerous person and has no remorse for any of his past crimes or this one."
