Fortuna's Jacob Fuller and Regina Fuller are parents to two of the band members. I know Jacob before he officially opened his barbershop in Fortuna. Regina is the Deputy Director at HCSO administration. Now, both of them are co-owners at Doubting Goat Records.
Press Release:
In the friendly city of Fortuna, CA four teenage friends dream big. Sergio Ramirez (Vocals/Guitar), Joshua Fuller (Guitar), Ethan Fuller (Drums), and Ryan Martin (Bass) of The Critics have just released their original song “The Noise” to over 1,000 alternative rock radio stations in the US. Their sponsoring record label, Doubting Goat Records, has hired PlayMPE to launch The Critics beyond Humboldt County borders.
Releasing music to streaming platforms is pretty common for musicians these days. Distributors like CD Baby and DistroKid make it affordable and easy to do. The Critics are taking it a step further by using music promoter, PlayMPE, to distribute “The Noise” to radio stations across the nation. They hope music and program directors will select their song for air play to get their music in front of a larger audience.
The Critics released their first EP, “Party Girl EP” in December 2021 with bassist Aaron Soli and their newest single “The Noise” in August 2022 with bassist Ryan Martin to streaming platforms like Spotify and iTunes. They are preparing to release their first full length album “Miserable and Melodramatic” in early 2023. Humboldt County radio station KSLG 93.1 has played 3 of their already released songs as part of their regular music rotation. “The driving vibes of The Critics on their latest track "The Noise" takes the listener on a rock journey of gritty yearning. With a sound both new and nostalgic, they're truly a band to watch.” Sabina Gallier, KSLG Program Director/ Music Director/ Morning Host.
The Critics formed two years ago when 2 brothers and their best friends found their passion in the family music room. They started with covering their favorite bands, The Arctic Monkeys, Interpol, and Queens of the Stone Age, but quickly turned to creating their own original sound. All band members contribute to songwriting by collaborating on song ideas and/or writing their individual parts with Sergio writing all lyrics for their current album. They have played 15 live performances in 2022 at local music venues and festivals.
While the band was in their early stages, their parents recognized that the boys had talent and a passion to do something with their music. Joshua’s parents sought out Aaron Souza with North Coast Music to teach Joshua mixing and music production using ProTools. The Critics have recorded all their songs at Souza’s studio with Souza being the sound engineer and Joshua, now age 15, mixing their music.
