Former Deputy District Attorney Steve Steward who was elected this June as the newest Humboldt Superior Court Judge has been assigned to Courtroom 7 which hears juvenile court cases, according to one source. He has not been assigned to family court according to another source.
As with the usual daily chaos in Humboldt Superior Court, assignments could change. When the Humboldt Presiding Judge is being disqualified and been hearing cases in early resolution court and hardly in his assigned Courtroom, Judges being shuffled around, let's see where the powers to be end up assigning Judge Steward.
Family court, juvenile and civil court have been the options for any Humboldt Judge who was previously an attorney handling a criminal caseload.
However, a third source said that if Judge Elvine-Kreis has his way, Judge Lawrence Killoran will remain in family court, Judge Elvine-Kreis will go to juvenile court with Judge Joyce Hinrichs and Judge Steward will be assigned to criminal. Another source confirmed that these are the assignments.
If you have been following my coverage on Elvine-Kreis, Humboldt Superior Court is chaos, more of a mess and he should not be a Judge, let alone in charge.
