Monetary sanctions requested against County of Humboldt in Kalin lawsuit

On November 30, I reported Rory Kalin's attorney filed a motion to file a third amended complaint in his lawsuit against Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis, Public Defender Luke Brownfield, former Public Defender Marek Reavis, Humboldt County Public Defender's Office and the County of Humboldt.

Reavis and Brownfield claim they did not undergo mandatory training from the County.

The motion is scheduled as a special set with Mendocino Visiting Judge Ann Moorman for  12/16. 

Since my last post, another date has been added for this lawsuit. Another hearing on a motion to  compel further responses to plaintiff's request for production of documents is scheduled for January 13. What is new is that Kalin's attorneys are requesting monetary sanctions.

Kalin is represented by the Los Angeles Firm Hershey Law Firm. Initially, Mr. Jonny Hornberger appeared for Kalin. Lately, it has been Mr. Johnny Rundell or Mr. Elias Fakhoury.

Mr. Patrik Griego represents Elvine-Kreis andtold me, "The proposed amendment does not involve my client."

Melissa Currier from the Sacramento law firm, Angelo, Kilday and Kilduff has been appearing on behalf of County of Humboldt , Reavis and Brownfield. 

The original date of December 9 was changed because of the defendants to December 16. Defendants call it error; more like incompetence.

12/16: Motion to file third amended complaint granted. The 1/13/23 date on motion to compel further responses to plaintiff's request for production of documents is continued by Court to 1/18/23. Case management Conference is moved up to 1/18/23 and the 1/30/23 is vacated.
