DA Press Release:
District Attorney Maggie Fleming announced that following a three-day trial, a Humboldt County jury today found 26-year-old Melecio Lorenzo Sandoval of Eureka guilty of attempted robbery (Penal Code §664/211).
The victim in the case testified that in May 2021, Mr. Sandoval, whom she did not know, ran toward her out of an alley as she walked home from a local store. Deputy District Attorney Luke Bernthal prosecuted the case with the assistance of District Attorney Investigator Braden Brawner and Victim Advocate Michala Pelren. Conflict Counsel April Van Duke represented Mr. Sandoval. Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter presided over the trial. Mr. Sandoval is scheduled to be sentenced on January 6, 202
