Did you know the EPD officer who shot the BLM protestor with a pepperball was being investigated for excessive force?

Wondering what is happening with the lawsuit protestor Molly Crane Conso filed against the City of Eureka, County of Humboldt , Sheriff William Honsal, former Eureka Police Chief Steve Watson and Does 1-20.

Well, as civil lawsuits go,a whole bunch of filings and not much to report.

I covered these protests. At the time of this incident, I lived at an apartment near 6th and N. I was there for most of the chaos that night but did not personally witness the incident. So my opinion of those protests are in no way reflective of the merit of the lawsuit.

As a group in general, I felt the protestors were unruly, confrontational, disorganized and regardless of individual intent, an atmosphere was created that escalated into lawlessness and endangered th public. I am not going to defend the City of Eureka, the County, the Sheriff or the former EPD Chief. As for law enforcement, they had a tough job and while I am generally supportive of both HCSO and EPD, there are bad apples and if law enforcement would handle and take care of the issues immediately; there wouldn't need to be press coverage and lawsuits. Decent law enforcement scapegoated for the actions of a few.

According to sources who watched the video, one said,"I am fairly certain a HCSO deputy was responsible but an EPD officer deployed the pepperball."

According to sources, "the EPD officer who deployed the pepperball was being investigated for excessive force at the time and should have never been assigned that position." Former EPD Chief Watson removed the officer from that position.

According to sources, law enforcement was instructed to stay away from the protestors "unless the shit hit the fan" and then expected to restrain and do whatever necessary. This is just one example of the stress EPD and HCSO front line were during the pandemic.

Typical Humboldt. In the recent EPD text investigation, the City of Eureka bears no responsibility; Watson retires but they discipline the five EPD officers. Throw meat to the angry PC mob and solve nothing.  The leadership gets away scot free and sacrifices anyone standing in the way of their careers.

Hanko and Thado were fawning all over Watson's retirement and as usual, the hypocrites in this town will ignore the two faced coverage of Watson, Andy Mills  Honsal and more by these and other "local media" sources.

For my readers who are not local, don't worry about who Thado and Hanko are. Except for the minority of local politicians, funders and randos sitting in coffee shops; no one else in Humboldt knows or cares who they are.

With the lawsuits, the City of Eureka and the County has lost; they are an easy target. I don't feel sorry for them. I do feel sorry for many of us who have legit issues that should be filing lawsuits but are too busy surviving. People today fall for grifts, fund agenda based, emotional causes instead of  supporting the good fight because they are selfish.

For those who like timelines and details, screenshots from PACER and Justia are included at the end of the post. They are from two different sources and for once, I am not worrying if every single one is chronological
