His new toy broke down. Some issue with a steering wheel. The captain and Elvine-Kreis were not in California. He was out of state and had to be rescued by the U.S.Coast Guard.
Usually, a Judge's personal life is irrelevant. In this case; it is very relevant. The lawsuit against him involves an incident on a boat where he was allegedly drinking and partying with Humboldt Public Defenders, allegedly yelled Jewish slurs, allegedly pushed a former deputy Public Defender into the water and allegedly indulged in other questionable behavior.
Optics matter but Elvine-Kreis doesn't give a fuck. He seems confident he is going to beat this lawsuit. If he goes down; others may too. Does he care? No. Those enabling this arrogant, unprofessional bully; if they go down with this lawsuit and his scandals; do I care.? Not one bit.
He is gone a lot. Other court calendars regularly have more cases and full days. Other Judges take vacation but they aren't gone as often as Humboldt Superior Court's little napoleon. How many work conferences and vacations has Elvine-Kreis taken compared to other Judges? He shouldn't be hearing any cases involving the Public Defenders' office since the lawsuit but he does. The Humboldt Presiding Judge and Humboldt Superior Court CEO allow it.
While Elvine-Kreis is enjoying himself on the water, his fellow Judges are covering his courtroom and doing their own job.
Elvine-Kreis' ignorant, poor judgement and arrogant rulings have ruined lives. He thinks he is above the law. Read about the Ben Erickson case on this blog. That is just one example.
The California Judicial Council and California Commission on Judicial Performance are a joke.
