Active law enforcement investigation on the 2000 block of Thiel Ave in McKinleyville. HCSO responding to reports of shots fired into a nearby residence. No known injuries at this time. Video statement by HCSO PIO Samantha Karges on scene: At 6 p.m. there was a 911 call of shots fired. The female victim, a neighbor of the suspect, Ryan Shaw, reported that he was firing shots from inside his residence into her residence. After law enforcement arrived on scene, which included SWAT and Humboldt County Crisis Negotiating Team, the victim was safely extracicated from the residence. Shaw kept firing shots. It is believed he was suffering from some sort of mentsl crisis. Eventually, he was convinced to come out of the house. No injuries known. Search warrant is being prepared and executed. It is believed mtiple firearms are in Shaw's residence. Around 8:45 suspect in custody

A McKinleyville man has been taken into custody peacefully following a Humboldt County SWAT response.
On August 10, 2020, at about 6 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call regarding shots fired into a residence on the 2000 block of Thiel Avenue in McKinleyville.
The suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Ryan Gordon Shaw, reportedly began shooting toward a neighbor’s residence from within his own home. At least one bullet reportedly entered the neighbor’s residence.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene and extricated the neighbor to safety. During this time, Shaw continued firing numerous shots from his residence, becoming verbally aggressive toward deputies. Humboldt County SWAT, the Humboldt County Crisis Negotiation Team and Humboldt County Mental Health responded to the scene to begin negotiations with Shaw.
Shaw continued firing from within his residence for the duration of the incident. Just before 8:30 p.m., Humboldt County SWAT deputies conducted a tactical operation utilizing the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Bearcat armored vehicle, to negotiate with Shaw for a peaceful surrender. Deputies were successful with their negotiation and Shaw was taken into custody peacefully.
No one was injured during this incident.
Shaw is being booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges related to this incident.
