CHP suspects man arrested for DUI in Palo Alto may have engaged his Tesla autopilot


CHP suspects Alexander Samek, a Los Altos Planning Commisioner arrested for DUI , may have had his Tesla autopilot engaged. The vehicle was clocked around 70 mph. When CHP pulled up close to the vehicle, it looked like the driver had passed out at the wheel.

On 11/29/18 at about 6:07 am, officers of the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to an in-progress burglary at the 200 block of Hillsdale Street in Eureka.  The reporting party (RP) stated an unknown male had broken into their garage and the RP’s husband had the suspect detained.

On Nov. 27, 2018, at about 11:20 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to New Navy Base Road in the Fairhaven area for the report of a sexual assault that had just occurred.

Sentencing for Timothy Flemming was was continued to Nov 26. Court minutes did not indicate jail time or probation but the probation box was checked off.

In August, Sheriff William Honsal had told me the replacement for Captain Kym Thompson would be an internal promotion.

The new HCSO captain is Bryan Quenell. He will be sworn in later this week. Captain Quenell starts in his new position next week.

Transient male stabbed in Arcata on Friday refuses to cooperate with APD and does not want to press charges



Just spoke with Detective Sgt. Chris Ortega of the Arcata Police Department

On November 23, at approximately 9:45 p.m., APD received a call about a stabbing. Officers responded to the 1600 block of Guintoli Lane. They found a 33 year old transient male with a single, non life threatening wound to the lower back. "The victim was apparently unaware he had been stabbed," said Sgt. Ortega. "We believe the suspect is known to the victim."

Probation denied for Dylan Wilson


Sentencing for Dylan Wilson on November 26 went through as scheduled. Probation was denied.

On October 25, Wilson pleaded guilty to Wilson would have to pleaded guilty to Count 1, forcible lewd act upon a child and a violation of probation. As part of the plea deal, Wilson agreed to a 8 year prison sentence. Wilson will have to register as a sex offender.

City of Eureka's Rob Holmlund told me:

·       Papa & Barkely has submitted an application for cannabis distribution and manufacturing (non-volatile) at the property that formerly held Kmart.

·       The application was signed by the current property owner, who has owned the property for over ten years.

·       The permit application is likely to go before the Eureka Planning Commission on December 10th.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is seeking public assistance in locating a subject wanted for questioning  regarding a death investigation that occurred at milepost marker 100 on Highway 1 in the Leggett area on November 24, 2018.

 23-year-old  Marco Padilla was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence morning after he crashed into a street sign in Petaluma.

HCSO responding to Miranda's rescue in response to tresspasser spotted on video and a dead dog.

HCSO is enroute to Mirandas Rescue, Sandy Prairie Road Fortuna. Some guy named Jose was seen on video by the manager; also a dead dog there. The initial information was from a reader/scanner tip.

I just spoke with Shannon Miranda. The dead dog has nothing to do with the guy who trespassed.

Inmate Alexander Ramirez almost escaped from jail; deputies located him on a rooftop



On Thursday November 22, 2018 at about 6:30 PM, Correctional Deputies conducted an inmate count and found that one inmate was unaccounted.  The inmate, Alexander Ramirez, 26 of Fort Bragg, was missing from the facility.

Charles Steven Flinn arrested yesterday is the same parolee arrested for lewd conduct last year in an incident at Target


Charles Steven Flinn who was arrested and booked yesterday has been previously arrested for vehicle theft, being under the influence of a controlled substance, parole violations. Last year, he was arrested for lewd conduct and parole violation after he was seen in a woman's bathroom at the Eureka Target.

Markis Shirley arrested again, this time for a DUI



Markis Shirley was arrested by HCSO for a DUI, booked and released on OR.

I covered Shirley's previous case. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of one count of burglary and two counts of criminal threats for a total of 4 years 8 months in prison.

He was originally charged with forcible rape.
