James Jesse Richardson sentenced to 78 months in state prison for armed home invasion in Laytonville, has four prior felony convictions

The first of three wannabe thieves who attempted an armed robbery to get marijuana and money at a Laytonville home in November 2017 was sentenced to state prison Wednesday morning in the Mendocino County Superior Court.

James Jesse Richardson, age 49, of Discovery Bay, was sentenced to 78 months in state prison for his particular involvement in a bungled robbery in concert involving a firearm of an inhabited dwelling. While defendant Richardson attempted on Wednesday a multi-faceted effort to continue his sentencing hearing and to remain at liberty, his attorney's continuance request was denied and the defendant was taken into custody for transportation to San Quentin to begin serving his time.

Serving time in state prison is not a new experience for this defendant.  Defendant Richardson was previously committed to state prison in 2015 by the San Joaquin County Superior Court after this defendant suffered four separate felony convictions in that county.

The attorney handling the prosecution of this defendant and his two co-defendants is District Attorney David Eyster.  The investigating law enforcement agencies were the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office, the California Highway Patrol, the Willits Police Department, the California Department of Justice forensic laboratory, and the District Attorney's own investigators.

Mendocino County Superior Court Judge John Behnke presided over Wednesday's sentencing hearing.
