From time to time, I have done posts on the Eureka Mission crew cleanups and community service in Eureka. The crew also regularly volunteers in Old Town and works with Eureka Main Street before and after events. As a thank you, they are being treated to lunch today by Eureka Main Street Director Charlotte McDonald.

EPD arrests and takes another child molestor off the streets

Convicted child molestor Randy Knopf was arrested again yesterday for possession of a controlled substance.

Cory Fisher moved again, this time to Salinas Valley State Prison

Former Humboldt County Correctional Deputy and convicted molestor Cory Fisher is currently housed at Salinas Valley State Prison. Before this, he was at the California Medical Facility in Vacaville and at the California Healthcare Facility in Stockton.

Preliminary hearing for attempted murder suspect Matthew Ramsey was continued to today. Alleged victim is Joshua Spaulding.

Matthew Ramsey was held to answer on all charges. Arraignment on July 26.

Franklin Molina charged with one less count for jury trial

Kidnapping, robbery and assault suspect Franklin Molina was arraigned on information today on 7 counts. Alleged victims are Adam Habib Owen and Emmalaya Jaleel Owen.

Everett Spillard was sentenced 15 years to life for molestation in 2018. Like his last claim, he lost his recent appeal.

Samantha Luna's other case was on calendar today

In addition to her criminal case, Samantha Luna has three traffic/infraction cases. Two were dismissed after a court hearing. In one of those cases, the officer did not show up. Word was that Luna was "pleased" at the outcome.

The third traffic/infraction case was on calendar today in early resolution court. That matter was also dismissed because the officer did not show up.

Ryder Stapp's Humboldt Superior Court shows an issue with speed and a nolo plea for a hit and run with property damage.

James Merrick pleads guilty, sentencing on August 13

Murder, hit and run and DUI suspect James Merrick pleaded guilty this morning. Sentencing is on August 13. Merrick pleaded guilty to Count 2 gross vehicular manslaughter and amended special allegation of fleeing the crime scene. Rest of the counts were dismissed.

This is a conditional plea for a 15 year prison sentence with Merrick agreeing to waive all credits up to sentencing.

Ryder Stapp's bail was $175,000, he is out of custody, arraignment possibly in August

Ryder Stapp posted bail on Saturday. It was $175,000. No complaint has been filed yet, bond status on August 7.

Jonathon Boone finally booked into Humboldt County jail yesterday

Checked with the jail at 8 a.m. on Friday, Jonathan Boone was not in custody. Followed up with HCSO PIO Samantha Karges. Boone was still at the hospital. He was finally booked into the jail yesterday. Bail is $500,000.
