John Chiv: Leohner and alleged molestor Dean Brown are wasting juror and court time

Jury selection, motions in limine were still going on in alleged molestor Dean Brown case this morning. Leohner and his client are wasting juror and court time. Deputy Conflict Counsel R. J. Leohner has struck out at least three times on two key issues.

On 10/6, Judge Kaleb Cockrum denied the defense motion to continue. On 10/7, Judge Cockrum declined to accept defense declaration of doubt. On 10/4 Leohner subpoenaed mental health records from Humboldt County. Previously records had been subpoenaed from Humboldt Neurological Group. Why wasn't declaration of doubt done as it is in most cases in the beginning?

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm filed a motion to amend information. Brown should have made a reasonable offer and resolved his case months ago.

Jury was finalized after I published in the afternoon. I am adding some court minutes with details on rulings and motions. Opening statements tomorrow morning.

Given the serious and sensitive nature of the case, I hope Mr. Leohner will spare us hours of theatrics, ramblings and performance art and keep his opening statement and cross examination relevant.
