Reed Tardy arrested for resisting arrest, assault on a police officer, criminal threats and vandalism

On August 22, 2017, at about 9:55 p.m., officers with the Eureka Police Department responded to Highway 101 just north of the Slough Bridge for the report of a male throwing rocks at a broken down vehicle.  A female locked inside the vehicle reported that the male came out of the nearby greenbelt and was making threats and throwing rocks.

Officers contacted the male, 59 year old Reed Tardy, in the greenbelt near the broken down vehicle.  Tardy exited a tent and immediately began swinging his fists at officers.  Tardy had a small screwdriver clinched in his fists and continued to violently resist.  An officer deployed his Taser and ultimately got Tardy in custody.  During the struggle, one officer received a minor scratch on his bicep from the screwdriver.

Tardy and the injured officer were treated and medically cleared by hospital staff.  Tardy was then transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for resisting arrest, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, criminal threats, and vandalism.
