No evidence in shots fired call; "officers learned that both individuals were homeless and had no reason to be in the neighborhood. They alleged they were there to “look for sticks and smoke weed” in the woods. "

EPD Chief Watson just responded and me sent an update to my inquiry regarding the shots fired on N Street:

"On 08.12.17 at about 4:39 PM, Eureka Police Department officers were dispatched to Gates and N Street in Eureka for a reported shots fired call.  The first officer arrived very quickly and located two subjects.

They reported a lone subject in a silver sedan had fired four shots from a Glock .45 auto while driving past them.  They claimed there was no motive for the alleged shooting, and did not know the shooter.

Over the course of the investigation, officers learned that both individuals were homeless and had no reason to be in the neighborhood.  They alleged they were there to “look for sticks and smoke weed” in the woods.  Both subjects were under the influence and one was subsequently cited and released for H&S 11377(a), and 11364 (possession of methamphetamine and drug use paraphernalia).
The neighborhood was canvased and none of the neighbors reported hearing any gun shots.  One family was in their living room right in front of where the shooting allegedly occurred, and did not hear anything.  There were no shell casings located.  "

  1. Curious...how would they know the exact type of gun and caliber used while someone blazed past them? Seems rather invented to me. Perhaps that scenario played out in their drug-addled brains. ~TMOB
