HCSO Deputy Bronson testified Domenico told her he had a gun. "He said he had two pickles."
On August 18, 2017, HCSO Deputy Chanler Bronson was dispatched to a call in Manila.
She first went to Pebble Lane and contacted the alleged victim, Thomas Uber.
"The alleged victim had blood on his head and was complaining about his structure on fire," said Deputy Bronson.
Deputy Bronson had a brief conversation with Uber. "I saw blood on top of his head. He said he was attacked that morning."
Uber told Deputy Bronson that he was attacked by "Tony and the Sjoding brothers."
Uber said he was "struck by a large stick". Uber's demeanor was described as frantic, by Deputy Bronson. He told her that " Tony and the Sjoding brothers were trying to run him out of his camp."
Uber pointed towards Peninsula Drive telling Deputy Bronson where the alleged suspects were. Despite her telling him twice to wait for medical, he followed her to the homeless encampment. After he left in an ambulance for St. Joe's, Deputy Bronson went to the encampment and saw "one structure on fire."
From previous contact with Uber, she knew that he lived in that structure. By the time she got there, she could only see smoke since firefighters had already started "efforts to put out the fire."
Uber's house was described by Deputy Bronson as a " makeshift house of pallets. No one was around except a dog."
Deputy Bronson had been informed by another deputy on scene about a male standing on Hwy 255. She located that man, Domenico, and he told her that he lived in the encampment.
Deputy Bronson testified that Domenico was intoxicated. When Deputy District Attorney Adrian Kamada asked her why she thought so; Deputy Brinson said, "he had slurred speech, odor emanating from him, he could not stand still and he admitted it to me."
Domenico told Deputy Bronson that he had lived at the encampment for three years and that is also how long he knew Uber.
Deputy Bronson asked Domenico about the attack on Uber and "he told me he had no idea."
Domenico told Deputy Bronson that he had not seen anyone but he heard " fighting that morning" and he heard Uber yelling.
Domenico told Deputy Bronson he had a gun. "He said he had two pickles."
She went back with Domenico to his camp to "retrieve his dogs. We located one dog; the other one was missing. We started walking back to the Highway. The media was there and started asking him questions."
One particular statement by Domenico caught her attention. " He ranted on about an argument stating Uber was attempting to have homosexual relations with him and Uber burned down his own residence."
Deputy Bronson asked Domenico why he changed his story, when speaking to the media, and he denied it.
During cross examination, Domenico's attorney, Deputy Public Defender Marek Reavis asked Deputy Bronson if Uber was initially hostile to her, and told her "to fuck off" and gave her the finger. She said, yes.
She also told Mr. Reavis that Domenico claimed the fire started after the commotion.
"There was a lot of blood" on Uber's head. Uber did not know who hit him.
On redirect by Mr. Kamada, Deputy Bronson said that Uber told her he was sleeping and woke up because Domenico was yelking profanities at him. "Domenico was yelling faggot at him multiple times." Uber asked Domenico to stop yelling.
