Resistance to newcomers? Anti growth sentiment = poverty? Let's print this out every time someone says smart growth in Humboldt and hand it to them.

Anti-growth forces? Where would that be in Humboldt? Are they the people who don't want clearcutting, bulldozing for mega-grows, or people don't want growth into wetlands, forests, etc. We have plenty of developable land, who's stopping them? Red tape is one thing, but blaming "anti-growth forces" is off base, in my opinion. We've never had such a pro development "force" than in my 30 years here.
ReplyDeleteTall Trees, you have lived here longer than me. We don't always agree but you are always respectful. My comment is directed to protests such as Richardson Grove, the many lawsuits Baykeeper and EPIC selectively file. As for opposing mega grows, EPIC sure did not until recently, and even that was a half hearted effort. Pro development to me is not a lawsuit being filed under "wetlands" for every small thing. It has been abused by the local, radical extremists. We will disagree on this, no matter how often we go back and forth.
ReplyDeleteReasonable laws for environment are one thing.
Thank you! And I understand your drift, but honestly right now we need someone speaking up for good local development. We need housing! We need trails! We need to protect what we have, too. It's too complicated to say folks are either anti-growth or pro-growth. Growth is inevitable, but samrt growth isn't a given. Take care...
