6 pounds of meth and 9 firearms seized but alleged meth trafficker MIA

Since the summer of 2021 the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) has been investigating a large drug trafficking organization (DTO) led by Alejandro Ramirez Luna (52 years old from Eureka). During the investigation agents were able to identify multiple houses in Eureka that Luna was using to hide large quantities of methamphetamine. 

California statewide indoor mask madate starting Wednesday


California is ordering a statewide mask mandate for indoor public spaces to go into effect on Wednesday. This affects those counties who do not currently have an indoor mask mandate which is about 50 percent of the population.

This is a precaution due to a surge in coronavirus cases and concerns about the Omicron variant. The per capita rate of new coronavirus cases in California has jumped 47 percent in the past two weeks. The statewide indoor mask mandate order will last a month and will expire on January 15.

Alleged serial rapist also charged with attempted murder



District Attorney Mike Hestrin announced today, Dec. 10, 2021, that 14 felony counts – including four counts of attempted murder – are being filed against a man believed to be a serial rapist.

A water pipe burst causes Oakland Federal Courthouse to close until further notice


A burst water pipe has caused flooding and the loss of heat throughout the Oakland Federal Courthouse (Ronald V. Dellums Building).  For the safety of staff and visitors, the Oakland Clerk’s Office will remain closed until further notice.  The dropbox at the Oakland Courthouse remains available for manual filings, and the San Francisco Clerk’s Office remains open.

Accident on Harris by N street



Jesse Smith sent these photos and said,"sounds like a taxi caused an accident right by my house again on Harris by N street. Lots of police.  Ambulance is supposed to be on it's way. My mom heard the crash and called 911 to alert them."

Federal Judge's order puts onus on Humboldt Superior Court for the hearing on the motion to supress evidence from federal raid

 


Ray Christie hearing December 16 on defense motion to supress in federal court was vacated. If Humboldt Superior Court screws around with the evidentiary hearing on the motion to supress in Christie's local case and doesn't follow the law, they provide another opportunity for the state and nation to see  Humboldt injustice and be embarassed and excoriated like the Magney case.

Steven Steward for Judge according to court grapevine

According to the court grapevine, Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Steven Steward wants to run for Judge. If true, that would be a change for the Humboldt bench.

Rio Dell energy storage facility built by Tesla

On Thursday,  December  9,  2021,  Mayor  Debra  Garnes  officially  opened  the  City’s  new  “Rio  Dell  Big  Battery”  energy storage  facility  built  by  Tesla.  The  facility  was  made  possible  through  the  California  Public  Utility  Commission’s  (CPUC) Equity  Resilience  Self‐Generation  Incentive  Program.  

Convicted criminal arrested on drug and firearm charges


On Dec. 10, 2021, at about 1:40 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the unincorporated area of Eureka conducted a vehicle investigation on a suspicious occupied vehicle parked at the Herrick Park and Ride.

Jason Miller arrested for murder of Kiera Lynn Foley

On June 28, 2021, 32-year-old Kiera Lynn Foley was reported as a missing person under suspicious circumstances.  She was reported to be last seen in Eureka with her dog in April of 2021.  

23 prison inmates secure state job offers and will be paroled or released next year



A civil service workshop and hiring event for incarcerated individuals was held at the California State Prison, Solano on November 17, 2021. Twenty-three individuals received conditional job offers for employment from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) before returning to their communities.

It is time for the full Senate to end PACER's costly fees

A bipartisan bill has been sent to the full Senate for consideration.  This would make the federal judiciary's PACER electronic court record system and downloading of filings free for the public through the elimination of costly fees currently charged.

Arrest for arson and violation of probation


On December 9, 2021, at about 2:39 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Lucas Street and Myrtle Avenue, in the County’s jurisdiction of Eureka, for the report of a possible arson incident.

Hoopa schools advised to be on lockdown due to pursuit of male suspect


12:28 p.m. update : Deputies are still searching the area for suspect who was in a stolen vehicle and fled on foot. 

1:21 p.m. update: "The lockdown at Hoopa Schools has been lifted. Suspect was not located, however, there is no perceived elevated or imminent risk to the Hoopa community related to this individual at this time. Vehicle involved in the pursuit has been recovered."

2:31 pm update: Bair Road pursuit suspect located and arrested by Hoopa Valley Tribal Police in the area of Cherry Flat/Matilton Cutoff. More information will be released later today or tomorrow morning.

HSU opens a Eureka campus store in Old Town

The Campus Store, Eureka will be located at 218 F Street in the Ritz Building. This site is in addition to The Campus Store on the Arcata Plaza, which is expected to open in the spring.
