Since the summer of 2021 the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) has been investigating a large drug trafficking organization (DTO) led by Alejandro Ramirez Luna (52 years old from Eureka). During the investigation agents were able to identify multiple houses in Eureka that Luna was using to hide large quantities of methamphetamine.

California statewide indoor mask madate starting Wednesday
California is ordering a statewide mask mandate for indoor public spaces to go into effect on Wednesday. This affects those counties who do not currently have an indoor mask mandate which is about 50 percent of the population.
This is a precaution due to a surge in coronavirus cases and concerns about the Omicron variant. The per capita rate of new coronavirus cases in California has jumped 47 percent in the past two weeks. The statewide indoor mask mandate order will last a month and will expire on January 15.

A water pipe burst causes Oakland Federal Courthouse to close until further notice
A burst water pipe has caused flooding and the loss of heat throughout the Oakland Federal Courthouse (Ronald V. Dellums Building). For the safety of staff and visitors, the Oakland Clerk’s Office will remain closed until further notice. The dropbox at the Oakland Courthouse remains available for manual filings, and the San Francisco Clerk’s Office remains open.

Federal Judge's order puts onus on Humboldt Superior Court for the hearing on the motion to supress evidence from federal raid
Ray Christie hearing December 16 on defense motion to supress in federal court was vacated. If Humboldt Superior Court screws around with the evidentiary hearing on the motion to supress in Christie's local case and doesn't follow the law, they provide another opportunity for the state and nation to see Humboldt injustice and be embarassed and excoriated like the Magney case.

Jason Miller arrested for murder of Kiera Lynn Foley
On June 28, 2021, 32-year-old Kiera Lynn Foley was reported as a missing person under suspicious circumstances. She was reported to be last seen in Eureka with her dog in April of 2021.
23 prison inmates secure state job offers and will be paroled or released next year
A civil service workshop and hiring event for incarcerated individuals was held at the California State Prison, Solano on November 17, 2021. Twenty-three individuals received conditional job offers for employment from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) before returning to their communities.
