EPD officer responds to firework complaint, piece of mortar breaks off and explodes

On July 4, 2020, a Eureka Police Officer responded to a complaint of illegal fireworks. When he arrived a piece of a mortar broke off and exploded just feet away. Luckily no one was badly injured, but a good reminder of the dangers of illegal fireworks. The responsible party was cited for possession of illegal fireworks without a permit and 30 mortars were confiscated and turned over to Cal Fire for destruction.

Zackery Edward Brown, vice-chair of the Trinidad Rancheria was arrested on July 1 and booked on the following charges:

Possession of more than 5,000 lbs. of dangerous fireworks (Health and Safety Code Section 12700(b)(4))Sell or deliver dangerous fireworks without a permit (Health and Safety Code Section 12676)Possession of dangerous fireworks without a permit (Health and Safety Code Section 12677)

Four cases for Damien Carlson resolved with "three years on the bus" plea deal

Attorneys reached a new deal resolving Damien Carlson four cases. Preliminary hearing scheduled for today was vacated.

Change of plea is scheduled before Judge Timothy Canning on July 15. Carlson had a previous plea deal negotiated; then he picked up new charges while he is in custody.

Robert Fregoso's attorney needs more time to take care " of a few things before a resolution can be reached

Further setting and possible change of plea was scheduled for Robert Fregoso and Rita Pimentel 2019 case this morning. It was continued to August 12.

Fregoso also has two other cases.

EPD Crime Analyst Brittany Powell confirmed "it was a minor injury traffic collision."  No arrests.
