If the Carrington Company did not bother to study the costs and whether a traffic signal would be needed, that is their incompetency and their problem.
The government should not be subsidizing private business owners. There are roads, potholes, many other neccesities that Eureka needs.
The Carrington Company and In and Out are not some struggling, first time entrepreneurs with a unique idea.
They can fork out $450,000 for a traffic signal if they think the In and Out burgers are going to be such a great draw.
Eureka City staff works for the City Council. The Eureka City Council made the right business decision about the $450,000.
So the City calls a traffic signal a subsidy? It's called and investment. That 450k is a investment that gives a return on investment in the form of sales taxes for many years to come. Stop subsiding durg addiction and neddle exchange you short sighted twits. Find another site In and Out or, just say adios.
ReplyDeleteNo Rusty, I called it a subsidy. Just as Danco or Mercer Fraser getting grant money and making money off it as private businesses. Private businesses, if they are successful and well run shouldnt need government funds.
DeleteAnd this government subsidy applies to a lot of local businesses. It is the Humboldt way for some. The same people who arrogantly look down on others. County jobs, grant funding or drugs, the Humboldt economic plan.
Carrington has a ton of $, so does In and Out. One of them should pay for it.
Part of the reason Humboldt is the way it is : no jobs,no real economy, no hope is because more people comment on burgers than go out and vote. I think In and Out is overrated, tried it in Redding.
If the fast food or a food related industry is what some people aspire to a career in Humboldt, then I'd rather have an Olive Garden or Red Lobster. And a local company that wants to make dollars of any such project to include costs of a traffic signal and any such related costs. I'd rather they give the money to you, at least then I know it will be used productively and by a local who cares.
I agree In and Out is highly over rated but the cult like fallowing by the 100's of thousands of So Cal transplants, my wife included beg to differ. We must attract business, one way to do that is with amenities such as restaurants, supply stores, places that offer competition and more choices. We just lost another extremely talented surgeon for the same old tired reason, the spouse hated it here for the lack of entertainment and travel expenses out of the area every time they wanted to go visit their family back east or in the south. Another half Mill on a multi million build maybe a deal breaker, maybe not. It's great to negotiate though it's the art of the deal. Who knows maybe Red Lobster and Olive Garden will move in with them and they can all pay for the traffic signal and everyone will happy, more sales tax revenue to fix potholes and pay police officers. Red Robins Monster Buger blew I n O away.
ReplyDeleteTo attract business first the mentality must change. This gossipy tribalism that is Humboldt and everything controlled by a few people with money is what keeps Humboldt stagnant. Incompetence that keeps talent and vision from suceeding.
