140 years to life for man for the murders of his father and friend and attempted murder of a CHP officer




Today,  the day before his jury trial was scheduled to start, Alan Leroy Ashmore entered a pleaded no contest to first-degree murder for killing his father, Douglas Ashmore, his friend Richard Braden and attempted first-degree murder of CHP Officer Steven Patrick. Ashmore also admitted to the personal discharge of a firearm that resulted in death and great bodily injury.

"Their business plan was to risk the health and lungs of unsuspecting consumers in order to maximize their black market profits"



With 37 cases in the court system, Wayne Graham knows how to maneuver the legal system

Ruling on special allegation and sentencing was scheduled for Wayne Graham on February 20. It was continued to this morning and then continued again to April 2 at the request of defense.

Graham's attorney filed a order for access to the Humboldt County jail for conducting an expert evaluation yesterday and Graham filed a writ of habeas corpus.

On January 23, Graham was found guilty of 245 (a) (1).

Demetrius Coleman gets private attorney appointed, motion to continue "likely"


Murder suspect Demetrius Coleman's attorney, Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps requested a hearing today and declared a conflict.  The court appointed Ms. Andrea Sullivan to represent Coleman.

Intervention and bail review was held this afternoon for murder and kidnapping suspect Ryan Tanner. Preliminary hearing scheduled for March 3 was vacated.

Additional discovery leads to rescheduling of Pamela Millsap's preliminary hearing


Intervention was held this afternoon for murder suspect Pamela Faye Millsap. Preliminary hearing scheduled for March 4 was vacated.

Defense received a thumb drive with additional discovery and since People did not object, the request for motion to continue by the defense was granted. Millsap entered a 10 day time waiver.

On March 1, 2020, at about 6:54 a.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a travel trailer parked near the intersection of Janes Road and Foster Avenue in Arcata for the report of an assault that had just occurred.

On Feb. 28, 2020, at about 11 p.m., Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies on patrol in the area of Highway 96 near Orleans attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop for a vehicle code violation.

Former insurance agent John Ford resolves his case by pleading guilty to one count of embezzlement


Trial confirmation for former insurance agent John Ford was scheduled this morning. Jury trial was scheduled for March 16. Ford resolved his case today.

Ford had already waived his right to a preliminary hearing. There are multiple victims.

Aaron Arlotta held to answer on all charges in recent case filed after February arrest




Aaron Ashley Arlotta has two cases. One is a felony, for  parole revocation. He was arraigned on that case on 2/18, a parole evidentiary hearing was held on 2/20, intervention scheduled for 2/24 was continued by defense to 2/25, the parole hearing scheduled for 2/26 was continued by defense. Next court hearing is 3/11.

Carlyle WhiteOtter Blake was arrested by HTPD yesterday for PC 664/187 (a), attempted murder. HCSO PIO Samantha Karges said Blake is being held without bail.

Officer Bram Jansen gets well deserved recognition from EPD




Officer Abraham “Bram” Jansen was selected as EPD's March’s Officer of the Month!  Officer Jansen recently became a Field Training Officer (FTO). The recognition from supervisors is well deserved.

New owners of Hunan restaurant making changes to menu

People who go to Hunan's in Henderson Center on a regular basis know that since November, new owners have taken over the restaurant. Changes in process are a new menu and a computerized system to input food orders. The owners will be adding items highlighting Laotian cuisine.
