Travontae Hutson and Ian Pease aka Ian Rose were arrested and booked in connection with the Perry Bailey homicide.
Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for both cases.
Hutson had Conflict Counsel appointed at arraignment. A conflict was declared by that office. Private attorney Ms. Andrea Sullivan was court appointed.
Pease has retained Ms. Kathleen Bryson. Bailey, the victim, has been previously represented by Ms. Bryson in criminal cases.
Rose clarified in court today that his true last name is Pease. Judge Wilson asked which name was correct as there are two names listed for him in the complaint. In addition to this felony, he has another felony case and a PCRS violation which is "trailing."
Both defendants were arrested on different dates, both have entered the 10 day time waivers and the preliminary for both is scheduled on February 10.
The People intend to file a motion to join both cases. More discovery is being provided to defense counsel today.
Hutson is charged in Count 1 with first degree murder with the special allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury and death to Bailey. The weapon used was a handgun.
Count 2 is possession of a firearm by a felon. Hutson has a previous convictions for corporal injury to spouse or cohabitant from Pittsburg, criminal threats from Stockton and robbery from Richmond.
Hutson was arraigned on December 16. OR by Conflict Counsel was waived without prejudice on that date. Bail is $ 4 million.
Pease is charged with murder in Count 1 with one special allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury and death to Bailey, another special allegation is during the commission of the crime Pease was armed with a firearm; a handgun. Pease has two previous robbery convictions in Humboldt.
Count 2 is possession of a firearm by a felon.
Pease was arraigned yesterday. Bail is one million, five hundred thousand.
