Orange Superior Court former judge Israel Claustro was issued a public censure by the California Commission on Judicial Performance.
He entered into a stipulation with the CJP. "A public censure and
bar is the strongest sanction the commission may impose on a judge who has resigned from judicial office. "
Just like former Humboldt Superior Court judge Gregory Kreis, Claustro is barred from future judicial service.
Of course all these actions by the CJP mean nothing because Kreis is currently practicing law as an attorney. The California State Bar thinks it is okay for Kreis to do so despite the CJP decision and Kreis being overwhelmingly rejected by the voters.
The CJP and California State Bar stood idly by while Kreis chose to take issue with my factual reporting and opinion of him based on covering Humboldt Superior Court for 12 years.
An opinion corroborated by court records and other attorneys and the public. In fact, I have it in writing. An attorney gave me after the fact. Most of the local media also did nothing.
Except in rare cases involving judges that the CJP takes on and it isn't easy; judges do not hold their own accountable. If a lawsuit involves a judge or an attorney; there should be a separate, independent process and not in the court where that judge or attorney practices.
I still get emails and people contact me about Kreis when he was a judge and expressing dismay about him being an attorney.
Claustro resigned in January after agreeing to plead guilty to federal charges.
Documents about Claustro included below.
We have a Texas judge who made a fool of himself online and is now threatening an attorney for correctly calling out the judge's behavior towards court staff.
There need to be exceptions to every kind of absolute immunity whether it is law enforcement, government or judicial immunity.
You won't see any protests in Humboldt or the nation against these abuses of power.
Justice isn't blind; it is two tiered. And if you dispute that, I got a bridge to sell you.
**Note to any snarky attorneys, businesses or readers who are too lazy to look at documents, you don't pay, contribute for what you got for free for 12 years and still don't. Especially the male attorney who wants to ask questions, wants knowledge for free, wanted me to provide links to previous posts yet has not contributed a dime to my hard work in 12 years. You want convenience, pay for my time and expenses, Buy an ad and financially support independent reporting if you want a site with bells and whistles or put in the effort to enlarge a picture, screenshot, text for free. You don't work free. Don't expect me to.
