After several continuances by defense, today a date for preliminary hearing was finally scheduled for 6/17. That would normally be another update just added to the other minor ones in the October 2025 post. The defense declaring a conflict after 6 months and Conflict Counsel being relieved; also not a big deal.
The new post is because Mr. Russ Clanton has been retained by Alvarez-Gamboa. Is this an exception to retirement or is he back in business?
With the amount of what is almost daily arrests for alleged rapists, molestors and other predatory crimes in Humboldt County as well as repeat offenders; public defenders are declaring conflicts more often.
Mr. Neal Sanders is retired. Mr. Michael Robinson is busy and semi-retired. Ms. Andrea Sullivan is busy and practicing in Southern California. These three attorneys are in demand. They take cases others are reluctant to and they deliver results. So will Mr. Clanton be taking on more cases and reviving his contacts particularly in the local Mexican and Latino community?
