More of the Georgi Tonev case coverage you will not get from other media; they made plenty of money from cannabis growers yet don't have the guts to cover a case where an attorney, a defendant is taking on HCSO and the DA and only I am reporting on the case and facts not available "elsewhere"

 

I do not know human trafficking suspect Georgi Tonev. I do know Humboldt and how things work here for 22 years. I know how Humboldt Superior Court works for 12 years and how Humboldt justice works. I know Ms. Andrea Sullivan for 6 years now and if there is a case that seems impossible; if you need someone to fight the system; hire her. What I do know is that his ex wife showed up for court twice, is willing to post portion of his bail. What I know is that two men waited hours and days to testify for Tonev.

I received this email on April 4. I didn't print it because I wanted to wait because timing matters. I chose to redact the person's name because they could be a potential witness; for that person's protection and because I don't work for HCSO or the DA. 

"Hi there.  My name is (name redacted) and I am a client of tonev.  In Oregon he just pulled an OLCC license and was planning to move all operations to Oregon.  So we all were ghosted when he was arrested.  This is not the Georgi we know, he has been kind to all of the folks here and we are starting a project for him like I said.  I don’t think he meant to leave a guy stranded but who knows.  People do crazy things.  Thanks for the updates and I’ve dealt with court stuff, DAs will throw cannon fodder at guys and destroy reputation without any regard for real humanity.  Not trying to defend georgi but they might not have all the facts and it doesn’t matter. 

Call me if you’d like to."

I have already been very frank about how I feel about HCSO and Humboldt DA's handling of this arrest.

None of the other media who made a lot of money and still do through the cannabis industry have covered this case or the hearings. Nor will they risk taking on the DA and HCSO. Yet, once again, here I am speaking up for people that gets me nothing. It will cost me.

Tonev finally has a chance to post bail; I am sure the DA is figuring out some other last minute twist but they have had many losses in this case. If you haven't read my April 2, 2026 post which has coverages and updates including yesterday's hearing; you should.

My readers know me; they trust me. I offer them the blunt truth with court records. It may piss off people including law enforcement, the DA, other local media, the so called powers to be in Humboldt but fake news resonates with the nation for a reason. "Legacy" "mainstream" and " established" media is not a compliment these days.
