Plea deal for repeat offender James LaBranche includes dismissal of attempted murder charge, cap on jail time and probation

 

On 2/27, James LaBranche entered a conditional plea for probation and 180 days jail cap. He pleaded guilty to Count 2 criminal threats and Count 3 domestic violence and admitted special allegations. Count 1 attempted murder was dismissed. Sentencing is on 3/24.

Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward took the plea. Deputy District Attorney Victoria Reierstad was present for the People. Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo for LaBranche.




3/24/26: As agreed in his plea deal, Judge Steward sentenced LaBranche to 4 years of formal probation with credit for time served. He now has a strike and 5 years prison exposure if he violates probation. He was also sentenced in his probation case.
