Indecent exposure suspect Kevin Astry failed to appear in court, defense claimed he is having a mental health breakdown, defense request for doubt denied until Astry shows up in court, bench warrant issued for $60,000 and held until next week

On December 9, indecent exposure suspect Kevin Astry was arrested by HCSO near Pine Hill elementary.

The DA charged him with PC 69 obstruct/resist executive officer; PC 243 (c) (2) battery with injury on a peace officer and PC  314 (1) indecent exposure. Alleged victim for Count 1 and 2 is HCSO Deputy Tristan Smith.

Astry's bail was $60,000. He was granted supervised release. On 1/30/26, Astry failed to appear for his preliminary hearing. Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada said Astry is currently having a mental health breakdown and has an appointment with a mental health provider on 2/11/26.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer requested a bench warrant be issued. Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb granted that request; it is for $60,000 but will be held until 2/4 which is the next court date.

Defense request to declare doubt regarding competency was denied by Judge Cockrum until Astry appears in court.
