CHP arrests 39 year old Michael Dominic Thomas Lumsden for felonies that are all sex crimes involving a minor

(CHP)

According to the Sacramento County Jail Michael Dominic Thomas Lumsden is charged with PC 288 (a) (2), PC 288.4 (a) (1) and PC 288 (a) lewd or lascivious act with a minor under 14. Bail is $500,000.

In researching Lumsden, I had some more questions about the arrest and if it was related to Lumsden's work. I reached out to CHP Media Office. CHP Lt. Matt Gutierrez responded, "Unfortunately, this case is still under investigation, and we are unable to release any further information."

Despite 5 cases, multiple and frequent arrests, Brian Mitchell has had two cases dismissed and three plea deals with more charges dismissed by the same prosecutor in 2024 and 2025

Former Security National employee, former Humboldt Planning Commission member and former County Assessment Appeals Board member Brian Mitchell had his 2024 case dismissed on the day of preliminary hearing. Once again, on the day of his preliminary hearing in 2025, he had four 2025 cases on calendar yesterday. He resolved all the cases and was sentenced by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum. Mitchell was released from custody yesterday.

In CR2501402, Mitchell was placed on 1 year probation after pleading guilty to Count 3, HS11377 (a) possession of meth. Counts 1 and 2 were dismissed. Court minutes say "Conflict Counsel relieved effective after 31 days."

CR2501351 was dismissed by DA with a Harvey reservation.

In CR2501224, placed on 1 year probation. Dismissal Count 1. Guilty Count 2 as a misdemeanor. Can't read court clerk Krista's writing  to tell if it is HS 11779 (a) or HS 11377 (a). It is also an added count so I cannot look up previous charges.

In CR2501322, guilty Count 1, PC 602 (m) trespassing; given 72 days jail but with 36 actual days and 36 conduct credits; it listed as time served. Ordered to stay away from the Terrace Way and Central Avenue addresses and Mickey's Quality Cars which are all in Mckinleyville.

Mitchell's attorney is Humboldy Conflict Counsel Supervising Attorney Meagan O'Connell. The prosecutor in 2024 was Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Brandon Boozari. The prosecutor in 2025 for the four cases is also Mr. Boozari.

Based on Mitchell's frequent and prior arrests, will he be back in custody or has he learned his lesson? As I said in a previous post, Mitchell owes Ms. O'Connell his freedom; this was before he gor rearrested. Now he got most charges dismissed and is out of custody. Maybe, he should add Mr. Boozari to his Christmas card list as well.

I am not going to recap all my previous coverage. Most people read the blog regularly and anyone else can access prior information through links provided.

Adrian Curtis arrested by EPD twice within a month for criminal threats, domestic violence; new arrest adds assault charge

In June 2025, I reported on Adrian Lee Curtis' arrest by Eureka Police Department for for PC 422(a) criminal threats and PC 273.5(a) corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant more commonly known as domestic violence.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/06/adrian-curtis-arrested-by-epd-for.html?m=1

Curtis was arrested by EPD again yesterday for PC 422(a) criminal threats, PC 273.5(a) corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant and PC 245(a)(1) assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

Another repeat offender on the daily jail log taking up jail space, clogging the court system and wasting law enforcement time because of California soft on crime laws and California Governor Gavin Newsom closing down prisons.

ICE Boston arrests Jamaican national serving as a police officer who "illegally attempted to purchase a firearm."

"Jon Luke Evans not only broke U.S. immigration law, but he also illegally attempted to purchase a firearm. Shockingly, Evans was employed as a local law enforcement officer,” said ICE ERO Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “The fact that a police department would hire an illegal alien and unlawfully issue him a firearm while on duty would be comical if it weren’t so tragic. We have a police department that was knowingly breaking the very law they are charged with enforcing in order to employ an illegal alien. ICE Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing criminal alien threats from our New England communities.”

More details in press release.

I covered Jared Nelson, the suspect in the Glendale OIS shooting since 2018 and I already reported on the deputies being placed on administrative leave

Adel's, The Greene Lily, Cafe Brio and four other Humboldt restaurants awarded grants from the PG & E Foundation

(Adel's: Facebook)

(Cafe Brio: Facebook)

Megan McFarland, spokesperson for PG&E just sent out a press release with some background information.

"A good number of Humboldt County restaurants applied for grants from the PG&E Foundation and we just announced the winners, seven of which are in Humboldt."

"We started this program after the pandemic to help struggling, locally-owned restaurants and it has been so popular and impactful that we are on our fourth year. Grants were made available to California resident restaurant owners with fewer than five locations and less than $3 million in revenue, and prioritized minority- and women-owned businesses."

Delta co-pilot arrested by federal agents at San Francisco International Airport on child porngraphy charges

Some reports say that the federal agents included Homeland Security. There is nothing posted by Homeland Security  about this arrest.

As of 7 a.m. on 7/28/25, there is nothing about this arrest on Department of Justice, FBI or Homeland Security.

More details were available later on 7/28 after Contra Costa County Sherriff issued a release.

34-year-old Rustom Bhagwagar of Florida was being investigated by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office since April 2025.

He was arrested on Saturday at the San Francisco International Airport by Contra Costa County Sheriff detectives and Homeland Security agents on a Ramey warrant and is charged with five counts of oral copulation of a child.  Bhagwagar was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. Bail is $5 million. Delta has suspended him pending an investigation. Bhagwagar formerly lived in San Ramon.

Sherry Thompson, it does not bode well for your lawsuit against Humboldt Clothing Co. when two months later your attorney files a motion to be relieved as counsel

Sherry Thompson hired Mr. Naveed Halavi, an attorney from Woodland Hills to sue Humboldt Clothing Co. and Angel Young who are represented by Mr. Benjamin Kennedy from the Redding law firm of Carr, Kennedy, Peterson and Frost.

If you were looking forward to Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning declaring a winner in a courtroom battle between LA County and Shasta County; SoCal vs NorCal; you will be disappointed.

Thompson's lawsuit was filed on 4/9/25. Mr. Halavi filed a motion to be relieved as counsel on 6/27/25 citing "irreconcilable  breakdown in the attorney client relationship." Humboldt Visiting Judge Marjorie Carter signed an order granting Mr. Halavi's motion. There is a hearing on that motion and a Case Management Conference scheduled for 10/6/25.

Jury takes less than a day to come back with a guilty verdict for Allen Perkins on 3 out of 4 charges; he still has other open criminal cases and a civil lawsuit against HCSO

I did this post on July 19 on one of convicted felon Allen Keith Perkins' many Humboldt  cases which went to trial.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/07/courtroom-unavailability-fire-alarm.html?m=1

The previous post is very detailed with court records, coverage of the trial in CR2303622, Perkins his writ of habeas corpus petition which was denied and a civil lawsuit he has against the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.  Perkins has so many cases that he has also filed a civil lawsuit against HCSO and there is a case management conference on 11/3/25. I have included some court documents in that previous post.

"ICE isn’t just about immigration – we’re here to protect our nation’s most vulnerable in other ways, too"; these arrests in Louisiana and Texas are just two examples of heinous convicted child abusers

Suspect in Blue Lake OIS shooting had an arrest warrant for possession of a firearm and was involved in another incident earlier for brandhishing a firearm

At 12:38 a.m. today, Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal himself prepated and issued a press release on the officer involved shooting in Blue Lake yesterday. Deputies were serving an arrest warrant on the suspect for felon in possession of the firearm. He was also wanted in connection with another incident for brandishing a firearm. He fled from deputies. For more details on the OIS, read the press release. The suspect was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

Any additional details and updates depending on when they are released from HCSO will be added to the blog. Even though the initial press release does not state it; it is standard procedure to place the deputies involved on administrative leave.

I have out to Sheriff Honsal and Lt. Jesse Taylor today. Lt. Taylor confirmed "that three Deputy Sheriff's have been placed on paid special leave, which is standard protocol."

Johnnie Acosta's case last week is an example of why there is a constant backlog in Humboldt Superior Court.

Johnnie Acosta's case last week is something that I would have just added to the previous post because it is a continuance and reshuffling of dates.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/04/johnnie-david-acostas-2025-arrest-for.html?m=1

But this has been happening a lot lately in Humboldt Superior Court and the majority of requests are ridiculous reasons two three times a week on cases in one week and it is mostly defense attorneys; and often public defenders.

The constant court backlog is made worse by repeat offenders and these numerous continuances, often for defendants with multiple cases and the short staffing then impacts court minutes, getting things on calendar, getting that discovery. For me, 10 cases a day become 30 cases and this is how it has been for weeks. It has been non stop for months and even though, there are updates, I am taking breaks this weekend and time off next week for me. Humboldt Superior Court has been this way for 11 years.

All these delays are avoidable by better organization, judges getting stricter about what is "good cause" and less of "local rules" which Humboldt administration likes to create in some power play. I could understand the ego if this was LA or San Francisco. Humboldt is one piddly court in a small rural County with no power. Pigs will fly before the California Judicial Council will actually do something and come up here and streamline operations. They are another wasteful bureaucratic California organization wasting state funds.

On 7/24, the defense motion to continue continued to 7/25 because the Public Defender's office thought the motion was calendared for the next day. On 7/25 defense motion to continue granted. How hard was it for Public Defender Luke Brownfield to argue the motion to continue on 7/24? Is it not in the defendant's file? Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian managed to do so on 7/25 for Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada. Isn't the reason for continuance for defense usually discovery, investigation, voluminous discovery, haven't met with the client. Any of those would suffice the loosey goosey granting of continuances in Humboldt Superior Court.

The 7/28 date was vacated. Readiness Conference is scheduled for 9/10; jury trial on 9/22.

Anyone with a brain and basic economics knew and predicted CA minimum wage hike would cost thousands of jobs, we didn't need a research bureau to tell us that almost two years later

This was published two weeks ago. Legacy media published this today. These are just three examples. Gavin's goal to Make California Poor Again has been a "huge success. "

Convicted sex offender Henry James arrested by HCSO for misuse of 911 with intent to annoy or harass and resisting arrest

I covered convicted sex offender Henry Robert James in 2023. His lawsuit against Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Presiding Judge Timothy Canning was dismissed.

You can read that previous post which has details and court documents.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2023/10/convicted-sex-offender-lawsuit-against.html?m=1#more

Yesterday, James was arrested by HCSO PC 653x(a) misuse of the 911 with the intent to annoy or harass, PC 148(a) resisting arrest and  PC 69 resisting an executive officer.

The pursuit occurred on US-101 in northern Mendocino County, concluded in southern Humboldt County, Narcan had to be administered to one suspect and resulted in two arrests for DUI with drugs and possession of a controlled substance

On July 24, 2025, a Garberville Area CHP Officer attempted a speed enforcement stop on a Toyota Camry driven by Jose Gonzalez (29). Gonzalez refused to yield and fled at a high rate of speed northbound on US‑101, south of Standish-Hickey State Park. Gonzalez drove towards an active construction zone; at which time CHP discontinued the pursuit. CHP located the vehicle north of the construction zone and re‑initiated the pursuit headed towards Confusion Hill.

Juvenile suspect identified by EPD admits to alleged vandalism at Highland Park

Eureka Police Department issued a press release a few minutes ago about officers responding to July 22 report about vandalism at Highland Park. The juvenile suspect admitted to the alleged acts. The case has been referred to Juvenile Probation.

Yesterday, more people addressed the court for convicted kidnapper and batterer Jose Cruz than those for the victim

Jose Cruz was scheduled to be sentenced on 7/24. Judge Kaleb Cockrum did issue a ruling but also referred the matter to probation and sentencing is continued to 8/21. The way the court minutes are written, it is difficult to interpret whether Judge Kaleb Cockrum's ruling of 10 years, 8 months with execution of sentence suspended is the tentative or final ruling. I am trying to get clarification but it maybe next week until I can get hold of attorneys.

On July 1, I reported right after the verdict and as jurors were leaving Cruz was convicted of kidnapping, criminal threats, domestic violence and battery.

I covered Cruz since 2023. On July 1, Cruz's mother got in trouble for trying to record which is not permitted in the courtrooms or second floor and even media have to get a order signed by a judge.

Jake Combs murder conviction overturned; jury retrial in August pending defense motion to continue

(2022 booking photo)

I just did a detailed post on Jake Combs on July 18 and was the first to report about his appeal. Combs now has longer hair.

Today, Combs murder conviction was overturned. Jury retrial is scheduled but defense mentioned a motion to continue. Court minutes still indicate no bail but I want to check so this post will be updated. It maybe next week until I can get hold of attorneys.

I posted this on my FB page, shared it on my blog and not in detail on other platforms because it is not necessary

This is a post I did on my Facebook page. The blog audience, the Facebook audience, other platforms are all different. There is an overlap of blog and Facebook readers. I have shared most of that post which is relevant to blog readers and followers.
