I did detailed coverage during the preliminary and this, like most cases in Humboldt, this is a complex case and is not a clear cut case like the Gary Bullock, Jason Warren or Marci Kitchen case.
Finally, at 11:46 a.m. livestream for murder suspect Watson's case started. There is still no resolution. Trial assignment is scheduled for tomorrow. Unless there is a change of plea, jury selection with questioning of individual jurors will start on December 7.
A video with interviews that was provided to Watson's former attorney was not given to his current lawyer, Ms. Andrea Sullivan. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees provided that to Ms. Sullivan this morning. She is going to discuss that video and have further discussions with Watson today.
Discussions for resolution have been going on and the last chance Watson has is to plead to voluntary manslaughter and two more charges for a total term of 16 years, 8 months. As I reported previously, one of those counts is 245 (a) (1). The other is a special allegation for PC 12022.
Judge Christopher Wilson urged Watson to talk with his attorney before he rejected the offer. If this goes to trial and Watson is convicted of first degree murder, he faces 25 years to life; if he is convicted of secind degree murder, he faces 15 years to life.
