F street plaza renamed Coast Guard plaza, ceremony happening now











With Ms.Donna Landry singing the national anthem, the Color Guard at attention,the Madaket  in the background, many people showed up to honor the U.S. Coast Guard.

Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass, Eureka Mayor Frank Jager,Councilmembers Marian Brady, Heidi Messner, Kim Bergel and Natalie Arroyo and City Manager Greg Sparks and Take Back Eureka's Michelle Costantine (who is one of three candidates for Mayor in the November 2018 election) attended the ceremony.

This afternoon at 3 p.m. there was a ceremony to rename F street plaza Coast Guard plaza.

This was only one of theseveral  events this year planned by the City of Eureka to thank the men, women and families of the Coast Guard.

In a press release, the City of Eureka and Eureka Main Street acknowledged  Joe Filgas, owner of Cafe Nooner; Sean Culler, CSC, US Coast Guard, Sector Humboldt Bay and Costantine for the work they did in getting F Street Plaza renamed US Coast Guard Plaza. Culler was master of ceremonies today.

June 3, 2000, Eureka was officially designated the second United States Coast Guard City in the Country. During that time the City has celebrated US Coast Guard Month every August, to honor the men and women who serve in this branch of the armed forces. The Coast Guard was founded on August 4, 1790, and has a long and rich history of service to Humboldt Bay, and the City of Eureka, dating back to 1856.
