Four EPD officers, 10 hour shift,70 incidents including arresting "Jason Bourne-ish Alderpoint murder suspect, Zachary Harrison"

Today was another very busy one for our hardworking "A Watch" (dayshift) patrol team.  Patrol was running at minimum staffing with a senior officer serving as acting Watch Commander and 3 beat officers.

These 4 officers combined responded to around 70 incidents during their 10-hour watch.  This included apprehending Jason Bourne-ish Alderpoint murder suspect, Zachary Harrison, who had managed (until today) to elude capture during an intense 8-month manhunt.  (Kudos to the citizen who spotted him walking near the foot of Truesdale Street and called EPD. Read more about his arrest at the end of this post.). FYI, this is EPD's second homicide suspect arrest this week.

Among other calls, officers also handled a serious felony hit and run where a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing the 1900 block of Broadway outside of a crosswalk around noon. The pedestrian appeared to have sustained two broken legs.  The suspect vehicle was described as possibly an early 2000’s model black Mitsubishi Lancer with a loud exhaust and was last seen traveling eastbound on Wabash from Broadway (so please keep an eye out for it).

Some additional information you might find interesting:  From midnight to 2:30 PM this afternoon, EPD responded to 110 calls for service and self-initiated around another 30 incidents.  We responded to a total of 181 incidents yesterday (June 5th), including 125 calls for service and 56 officer initiated incidents.   In 2017, we responded to over 54,000 calls for service or about 150 calls per day.  So, if you find yourself wondering why it may have taken so long for an officer to respond to your non-emergency call, now you know (we do our best though).  We appreciate your patience and understanding.

You can check out what's happening in Eureka yourself now via Citizen RIMS, an online tool that integrates with EPD’s computer aided dispatch system. Citizen RIMS allows the public to view near real-time mapped incidents and more. Police incidents can be selected by date range and incident type and viewed in pin and heat map formats. The public can also view a list of vehicles reported stolen to the Eureka Police Department and a 30 day history of arrests. The daily media bulletin provides a 24 hour incident summary. Officers:           A1 Watch

On June 6, 2018, at approximately 1317 hours, officers from the Eureka Police Department were dispatched to the foot of Truesdale Street on the report of a subject matching the description of Zachary Harrison walking northbound through the parking lot. Harrison had a confirmed active felony warrant for his arrest for violation of PC 187 (Murder). Since September 2017, Harrison had managed to elude law enforcement on numerous occasions when attempts were made to take him into custody.

Harrison was located in the parking lot of Walmart by a patrol officer. When initially contacted, Harrison lied about his identity. However, the officer recognized him from prior booking photos and was able to take him into custody
