As I reported two days ago, the People made an offer to Jesse and Brandon Widmark. There was a plea this morning after some back and forth and hold up by Brandon Widmark who had at least three in court discussions with his attorney, Ms. Rebecca Linkous. As Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees detailed the pros and cons of the plea offer, Brandon Widmark finally got a clue.

Do any local MAGA members or Christians want to claim this obnoxious troll?
Do any local MAGA members or Christians want to claim this obnoxious troll? Maybe APD or EPD can check this person in current their school investigation?
This isn't the first such threat and email I have received. The Eureka City hateful comment was so dumb and obvious. Another inbred, racist hater who cannot even spell. Does nothing but spew nonsense. Must have gotten lost from home base of craigslist and decided to spam local media inbox.
To Mistr V, might want to read Psalm 34: 15 again. God is definitely not your side. In case, your pea brain does not get it, read Exodus 20:7.
On March 22, I forwarded this email to authorities because it maybe related to anothet investigation. Don't speculate on what investigation or why. I will not state that as I want authorities to investigate and see if it is related and not hamper their work.
I previously reported this but today, The Dhillon Law Group filed a Notice of Association of Counsel in the Swall vs Dwivedi lawsuit
In my March 10 post, I exclusively reported that Dhillon Law Group had sent a letter to the local Janssen Malloy law firm regarding defamation. To immediately stop smearing Mr. Anil Dwivedi and his business. My sources tell me Mr. Jeff Slack of Janssen Malloy was contacting media. That letter had the desired effect.
Ms. Meagan Yarnall and Mr. Slack are representing Don Swall and Vanessa Vachon. These are two plaintiffs who are tenants of the Hillsdale Apartments in Eureka and have filed a lawsuit against Mr. Anil Dwivedi.
The Dhillon Law Group is a national business law firm Dhillon Law Group with offices in California, New Jersey, Florida, and Virginia.
APD getting warrant for out of area adult male suspect who called over 20 schools and businesses
Arcata Police Department sent out a press release. Eureka Police Department also issued a brief press release later. I followed up with APD Chief Bart Silvers. APD is the lead agency. As I expected, the suspect's name is not being released at this time.
This is a tough post for me to write but unlike other media, I don't do selective reporting
Anakalia Sullivan, a local attorney and one of my advertisers, was arrested by Eureka Police Department for VC 23152 (a) and VC 23152(b) last night. She was booked and released on OR.
Booking photos are no longer released after the Ninth Circuit ruling. I have reached out to EPD to see what they can release and confirm. One of my questions was about confirming the location.
I have also reached out to Ms. Sullivan and gave her the option to officially comment. I am fine if she does not; that is what any lawyer would tell their client. She is extremely busy. She just completed the Widmark trial, has another trial and several preliminary hearings.
I may update the post. Just like any other case, the DA has yet to review a report and charges have not been filed.
This is a tough post for me to write but I have covered other local attorneys and unlike other media, I don't do selective reporting. People get DUIs all the time. Which DUI cases get covered depends on many factors.
One of the reasons I did this post was because I know how two faced, sneaky, back stabbing this County is, especially the vipers on the second floor of the Courthouse.
Before someone jealous and petty of Ms. Sullivan's success runs to other local media to make a big deal about this DUI case when other media have ignored so many other court and DUI cases and been called out by readers for ignoring cases about their advertisers. I covered those cases. One such example the other media ignored is Eureka Natural Foods' Rick Littlefield who had multiple DUIs and got SWAP. Mr. Patrik Griego of Janssen Malloy represented Littlefield. In another lawsuit, Mr. Griego and Ms. Meagan Yarnall of Janssen Malloy represented ENF again. That case was ignored by the local media.

DA dismisses case against Carla Jean Pirovano
Carla Jean Pirovano was arrested in August 2023 for criminal threats. The count was reduced to a misdemeanor by the People before a preliminary hearing took place. The case was then scheduled for a disposition reset.
Yesterday, the DA dismissed the case. The protective order was terminated.
Four to five well known local Eureka businesses expected to file for bankruptcy soon
Months ago, I mentioned that a well known and liked Humboldt County business owner wants to retire and sell the business. This was told to me privately and I have respected that decision. I am not even his lawyers knew and when I do share who it is; you will see part of the reason and the role this blog played in informing the public. Knowing what I do about part of the reason for this decision; I hope things have not worsened for this business.
Hearing about well established, well respected local businesses closing or the owner retiring is never easy. Even if someone new takes over, the business is not the same.
Today, during the lunch hour, I ran into someone well connected in the business community. He told me that very soon "four to five" well known local businesses with at least 10 employees or more are filing for bankruptcy.
Even local, generational business owners I know who are doing well are tightening the belt.

Verdict in Brandon and Jesse Widmark attempted murder case
I regularly reported on the Brandon and Jesse Widmark case. I was the only one to cover the trial. I have regularly reported on jury deliberations. No other media covered this case regularly after the initial arrest. No other media was in court for the trial. No other media was in court for the verdict.

Mendocino Sheriff Matt Kendal provides detailed statement in response to Galina Trefil's post and the MCSO investigation
Mendocino Sheriff Matt Kendall who I spoke with Friday just sent me the written response I requested. I did a post on March 14. I appreciate Sheriff Kendall taking the time after hours on Friday and sending the response today.
The statement was sent out in a separate email later to all media.

FPPC approves Newsom agreement, no record if Karen Paz Dominguez stipulation was approved
Former Humboldt County Auditor-Controller Karen Paz Dominguez stipulation with the California Fair Practices Commission was on the FPPC November 21, 2024 agenda. I reported on the proposed administrative penalty of $4,000 in my last post. In this post, I have included the proposed stipulation between FPPC and Ms. Paz Dominguez which includes her admitting to the four violations.
The approved minutes for November 21, 2024 show an approval for the Newsom item but Paz Dominguez is not in those minutes or the January 2025 minutes. Paz Domingues is not on the March 2025 agenda and the February 2025 agenda has not been posted yet.
I have reached out to the FPPC and I heard briefly from them today. FPPC looked into the matter, sent me some information.
Update: "Item #14 (14. In the Matter of Karen Paz Dominguez; FPPC No. 19/1459. Staff: Cinthya Bernabé, Commission Counsel. Karen Paz Dominguez, Auditor-Controller for the County of Humboldt, failed to timely file an Assuming Office, a 2019 Annual, a 2021 Annual, and a Leaving Office Statement of Economic Interest, in violation of Government Code Section 87300 (4 counts). Third loss for Griego, once again Judge McElfresh rules in favor of County in lawsuit filed by former court reporter
Last April, I reported that Kay Gibbs, former court reporter who worked for Humboldt Superior Court for 40 years is suing the County.
Del Norte Superior Judge Darren McElfresh was assigned to the case. Mr. Patrik Griego represents Gibbs. Mr. Griego told me he is doing this pro bono.
The County of Humboldt is County is represented by Liebert Cassidy Whitmore, a Fresno law firm.
Judge McElfresh's latest ruling filed 3/11/25 was served on the parties on 3/13/25 according to e court. This is the third loss for Mr. Griego.
Jugde McElfresh granted the County's demurrer without leave to amend. "Unfortunately plaintiff has not provided a single cite on point regarding lost or ancient payment history records of a public employee within the State of California, which has hired milions of people throughout its history."
"In regards to reviewing any witheld records, a simple mandamus will suffice,"was the last sentence of Judge McElfresh's ruling.
Cyndy Day-Wilson lost in Humboldt Superior Court, lost her appeal and the First Apellate ruling is an embarassment for a local lawyer who should know better
I had reported on a lawsuit filed by local attorney Cyndy Day Wilson and John Wilson against the County of Humboldt. The first post was in July 2023.
