Alleged molestor Derek Barnett picks up a new case; FBI may take over his case and Retired Judge Wilson denies DA request for remand

Alleged molestor Derek Barnett 2024 case has had setting of preliminary hearing scheduled on 5/8.

There have been numerous continuances in this case and both previous posts have minor updates included.

Different Deputy DAs have appeared for some of the hearings in the case. Senior Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm is currently in trial and on 5/8 Deputy DA Jessica Watson was in court for the People.

She requested remand however referral to probation was made by Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Christopher Wilson for conditions of release. OR bail and setting of preliminary hearing is scheduled for 5/12

Barnett has picked up new 2026 case in which he is charged with PC 166 (a) 4 disobeying a court order in 2024 case. OR bail hearing is 5/12; trial confirmation on 6/9 and jury trial on 6/12 in the new case.

Bad decision by Judge Wilson. What good are conditions of release for someone who broke the law while out of custody and is a clear danger to the alleged victims and public.
