Not only has convicted molestor Steve Boudreaux and Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo wasted time with three trials and no significant difference in the prison sentence Boudreaux faces; today was yet another unecessary hearing and request for continuance which wasted the court's time, staff time and Humboldt County Senior Deputy District Attorney's time.
Mr. Russo filed a request to continue the sentencing scheduled for 5/1/26. Then withdrew his request in court and asked to extend deadline to file his response. After the DA gets to respond, the judge will have a day to read all the court documents.
There is nothing new after three trials and it isn't as if Mr. Russo has to start from scratch. Everyone that has anything to do with Humboldt courts is busy with too much to do and not enough time.
The current Humboldt judges have been on the bench for quite a while. It is time for them to stop allowing the chaos and madness frustrating anyone who has to deal with Humboldt courts.
Many of the attorneys show no respect for the Humboldt judges, even the Retired Humboldt judges and are too casual in the Humboldt courts. The judges are not your buds or former co-workers. It is a small County and many of you socialize with each other but there must be a separation, decorum and respect for the robe. The bailiffs who are HCSO deputies are the only ones who give the judges the proper respect. There are attorneys who are not from Humboldt or who have practiced for decades and are more old school and the difference shows.
Boudreaux and other defendants and defense attorneys further abuse this lenient policy of endless continuances is a choice. Good cause in Humboldt is attorneys taking a day off whenever they feel like it and coming back the next day. I no longer buy the discovery, more investigation and the standard excuses I have heard over 12 years because I know it is often a way to continue the problem to another date which then piles up to a big pile of the crap that worsens everyday.
I cover court cases in other California counties and other states. The Humboldt court way of doing business is inefficient. A defendant does not get to drag out the system indefinitely.
With all the continuances and minor updates for months now, there is nothing going on in Humboldt Superior Court that cannot wait a few days to be added as an update to previous posts. Whether you see new posts or not, I am working 24/7. Maintaining a log of dates reshuffling for the same reasins for months is not my idea of court coverage.
I cover a lot of cases no one else does. I make a choice of what should be a new post. This was not one I had in mind but I am way beyond fed up with the current state and have been for years. It is affecting people I have gotten to know for 12 years and as all my posts, I have to be the voice for people who cannot afford to speak up. The attorneys can and should continue to do somore often but they are being ignored. There is currently no time set aside for plea discussions. You have to request interventions. I suggested setting a day aside and having less frequent wellness, drug court and all these other useless CA program hearings so often. Those can wait compared to homicide, molestation and other serious hearings.
Another improvement needed asap in Humboldt courts is utilizing staff who aren't putting in the same effort and cross training people. There are deputy clerks who work and there are those who don't. There are clerks who come in, work non stop, take the required breaks and lunch. There are others others who seem to have time to gossip, dawdle, smoke, whine even when their courtroom is closed for half a day or hours.
This post will piss off several at Humboldt Superior Court but what else is new? It isn't as if we have other media or the agencies supposed monitoring taxpayer funds or the local courts and watching out for the public doing their jobs. In other states like Utah, the media have each other's back and they have pro bono attorneys willing to take on the courts on behalf of all media including someone like me doing watchdog, investigative, independent reporting.
I have received a lot of positive feedback about my Humboldt court observations. And the only opinion that matters to me is those who support and invest in me. They give me constructive feedback too but no one controls me. The ones who support me give me freedom and I am grateful.
Unlike other local media who think clicks from anons, criminals and people who have zero influence or power in Humboldt; people read what I say and even those who are pissed off pay attention. You don't need a million views or readers; you need the attention of people who have the money, power and influence.
I was so positive when I came to Humboldt 22 years ago. I still am when I am not at 825 5th street and the area around which is the vortex of evil and hate. If you are someone who doesn't believe hell exists, it does right here on earth in godless, selfish, fake religious Humboldt. This evil sucks the life out of those who are positive, spiritual and who deal with life without alcohol, pot or cigarettes.
We have two jury services' clerks who sit around most of the time with nothing to do. The male clerk wants to work and assists other clerks and does other work. The female clerk who has arraignment for her DUI in May could be doing more instead has other court staff and her friends visiting her frequently. She talks non stop about her personal business for hours from morning to the end of the day. I don't need to hear about her son and every little drama in her day and all her issues.
This female clerk can be very charming when she wants and either has certain people snowed or Humboldt courts cannot do anything about her because of the worthless court union that never protects employees who need their help but allows slackers and unprofessional.m incompetence to remain. This clerk was very to me until I put some boundaries. Repeatedly asking me to go out for drinks on my time off with anothetlr clerk who left when I said no several times politely. I have told other people at the Courthouse when this happened and what goes on in that jury room.
If Humboldt courts and HR want me to name the staff membsr and the friends; I will or they can look at the cameras. I know management walks by and sees what I do. If we don't have money in the local courts; start eliminating positions. Then people who don't work can go whine and gossip on their own time.
There were two more computers in the jury service room added after I complained for years that two weren't enough on the second floor. I don't even go to the jury room sometimes because it is impossible to work with the constant in and out of certain court staff, all coming to "visit" this female clerk which includes one particular finance Humboldt court staffer who should be on reality TV with all her eye rolling and drama. The jury services room is not a break room. This is an issue when I need to check on 30 -40 cases a day and we have people with no court business misusing the public court computers and angry homeless people loitering around plugging their phones, trashing the area.
We have clerks in the I street office and in the courtrooms covering multiple courtrooms and busting to get work done under impossible conditions. All clerks get paid the same. All do not work the same. I have avoided writing about this particular clerk in the jury room because she craves attention and drama. All her passive aggressive digs at me by her and her male buddy in the clerk's office are a distraction from the work I do. I have previously spoken about this female jury service clerk to admin. Her response was to double down on being obnoxious. Of course, not to everyone.
From what I see Rochelle from Court HR doesn't have a clue who is working and who is not. Or just does not give a damn.
I know many of the clerks and court staff for years. In the last couple of years there are no standards because those who work hard and are professional aren't appreciated. There are enough people in Humboldt where the courts should be more discerning who they hire.
The drama queens of Humboldt Superior Court will drive the good employees away just as the bad apples have driven good law enforcement away. I know finding decent help is hard in Humboldt but it does not take a rocket scientist to see who is working and who is walking around flipping their hair, rolling their eyes and treating their Humboldt court job as a reality show no one wants to watch.
Humboldt Superior Court Operations Manager Kelly Nyberg who is extremely busy with several managers out right now including Assistant Operations Manager Scott is keeping things moving along despite the chaos and all the last minute disqualifications. Yesterday, she had to inform staff that I was allowed access to some information which again other media will benefit from but I get nothing and no support from them or their useless petty owners and publishers.
The same rude clerk who gave me the wrong information that I was not allowed to view, Lori, called me at 11:52 and said a file was ready.
She was nice on the phone. I walk in at 1:55 today and she tells me something got filed, she does not know what and the file is up with the judge. Can't provide me any info which is bs because if something is filed, it should be in e court but in this case, she was correct. What was so urgent that something was filed last minute, the file pulled and not entered. That is how it is in Humboldt courts. What I need should have been scanned into the system even if it is a document public and media cannot view so the copy of what I requested should have been made or printed. Not my problem, the file got yanked. I shouldn't have to work this hard because Humboldt courts still don't have an online portal or can't do the basics. Where is all the money being spent?
Another OST in the case and file I requested to view which may or may not be denied depending on which Humboldt judge hears the request. Of course, it is by the defense and specifically the Public Defender's Office. The prosecutor did not even know about this last minute filing. The OST deadline and other deadlines doesn't apply to attorneys; only pro per litigants who don't have taxpayer money, resources and staff.
I had until 4/17 which was the next hearing in this case and I made my request with enough time. Now this last minute OST which like Humboldt continuances has become par for the course instead of exception. I don't know what got filed but if it is an attempt to prevent me from getting this information; we will find out soon enough. Files dont get pulled unless something is scheduled for the next day or Monday. This is the second time this has happened in Humboldt Superior Court when I made a request. This is not me being paranoid, these are the dirty tricks I deal with to get information. And most of you don't pay or support me. Unlike other media, I verify, I research and I work hard for every scoop. The clerk Lori, unfortunately for me, is at the window next week. She is selectively unpleasant to me and whoevever else and very nice to the female jury services clerk and others. This kind of power tripping from insignificant people who would never last a day anywhere other than Humboldt County. Several employees at the Courthouse have cases of their own or family members which you would never know if it were not for my coverage.
And the issues are 95% with the women employees at the Courthouse and those associated with the second floor and of those women, 99% are liberal. Coddled and enabled by the Lost Coast Humboldt politically correct DEI mentality. That statement is not a talking point, it is based on observations and knowledge about the rude, incompetent employees. If you make a choice of being public about personal information irrelevant to your work and broadcasting it; that is not on me.
Those who I have seen at the local "No Kings" protest should start by looking at their own tyrannical behavior.

2:52 p.m: Humboldt is predictable as usual. When I went back for the second time to check on minutes and for this case, a clerk previously friendly to me ignored me. Is it because I called out her buddy in finance? Is it because I pointed out a valid mistake in court minutes that affects someone's freedom? I don't care what the reason is because this childish cliquey mentality is the biggest problem in Humboldt and the cause of negativity that is draining. The toxic den of evil on the second floor and 825 5th street is full of nepotism and unprofessional, whiny employees who gossip everyday, are miserable at their jobs and whether they are nice to you depends on who else they know. If they don't want to be called out, then they need to do their jobs, be civil and be grateful they have a job in Humboldt County with benefits.
I have stood up for plenty of people, including people at this Courthouse who are two faced and ungrateful. Plenty of people need jobs in Humboldt County and the courts should have a higher standard. I get nothing in return for what I do for these ingrates.
From the Robing room to Humboldt online forum, if anons could be exposed, you would see how many are connected in some way to 825 5th street.
Now attorneys, bail bonds representatives, other media and even court staff benefit from my calling out for changes and the only ones who appreciate my effort are the bail bond companies.
I don't like doing these venting posts but Humboldt has a listening problem and I am fed up of things as usual. Starting today, there are changes that I am implementing and when you will not know because you have ignored what I have said for months now. My crankiness is due to Humboldt and only Humboldt. I am not in the business to lose money. I have been stuck here now for 22 years where even justice on the second floor is non-existent. And I am not the only one impacted.
Since people, other media continue to take advantage of my providing free access on the blog and since most of you continue to ignore and refuse to subscribe or support me despite repeated requests and warnings; more changes will occur without any more reminders.
People, including media, who seem to think it is my job to provide them free information and access to what I have worked hard for and connections I have developed ends today. People in Humboldt are too lazy to call the DA, the clerks, look up information themselves or think they can use me for what they would have to pay for. They aren't getting the hint. I am going to start keeping a record of these requests and bill you per email, message and call for misusing my email address, and wasting my time.
Some survivors with very little have the decency to contribute, even if it once, when they are the one exceptionI don't expect anything from. My subscribers, advertisers and those who contribute are the ones I am going to focus on and they deserve to get access and perks because they have made an investment. The rest of you are lucky that I have editorial independence which is non existent. I make sacrifices for having integrity and I have decent advertisers. Go ask the sell outs and cowards for help and information next time who ignore what you go through and provide no relevant information and see if they do it for free for 12 plus years and ongoing.
Humboldt taking advantage of those who support my work and me ends today. The skills, information and time I have is worth money.
The blog has been primarily Humboldt centric and I am over the negativity and lack of gratitude. Words do not pay my bills and expenses.
The kind of reporting I do is needed and would be welcome anywhere. I am keeping the blog but I am also going to focus my time, energy on other options and making money which is my priority. I enjoy what I do and I don't get the grief and obstacles covering the rest of California and other jurisdictions.
Humboldt has been unsafe for me for along time. I take a risk daily going to that Courthouse. Despite sharing on this blog what I have gone through and do daily; despite sharing personal information and experiences; with a few exceptions, the rest of you are selfish, self absorbed and tone deaf. Apathy and complacency allows evil to thrive. Why should I deal with what affects you when most of you sit around and do nothing? You aren't there for me.
Humboldt always wants someone else to be the savior and take the risk. If Humboldt wants to be taken seriously other than being seen as a welfare rural, stoner County and being made fun of in other parts of California and if Humboldt wants to attract classy tourists and have an actual economy that isn't depend on drugs and social services and a place where people other than boomers who won't spend money want to live ; then more people in Humboldt need to speak up, get involved, learn to take valid criticism and change their nasty attitudes asap. Or go broke and have less options. Not my problem.
More people are leaving Humboldt who I like and that is another reason I don't want to be stuck here a day longer which I have been due to the selfishness and deception of Humboldt since I first moved here. People who can't be bothered to put in minimum effort and money for positive change and information they benefit from daily lack character and morals.
