Newsom announces new funding for homeless, mental health funding and CARE court

(Posted at 10:46 a.m.)

On Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m., California Governor Gavin Newsom, Secretary of the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency Tomiquia Moss, Secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency Kim Johnson, local and state leaders are announcing new funding for communities across the state to address homelessness and mental health and stronger accountability measures for counties administering CARE Court.

I am not posting the entire press release from Newsom's office. Of the 10 counties listed as CARE Champions, Humboldt is number on the list.

"Today, Governor Newsom is awarding ten counties as “CARE Champions,” a designation that reflects they have successfully implemented CARE Court within their communities and have the highest rates of petitions on a per capita basis. Per capita rates are calculated using the 12 months of calendar year 2025, representing the first full year in which all 58 California counties were required to participate in the CARE Act, allowing for consistent statewide comparison. The state’s first cohort of “CARE Champions” are:

  • Humboldt
  • Tuolumne
  • Marin
  • Napa
  • Merced
  • Sutter
  • Alameda
  • Santa Barbara
  • San Mateo
  • Imperial" --Governor Newsom's Press Office
