Red Lion and Royal Inn owner may soon own Days Inn in Eureka, Royal Inn almost full with County clients

(Photo taken by me in 2022, I did not take a current photo yesterday as several residents were outside and some are currently in drug court programs)

The owners of the Royal Inn on 5th street in Eureka also own the Red Lion Hotel on 4th street in Eureka. Royal Inn is almost at full capacity with several people housed by the County including people in programs supervised by drug court. New Life Discovery based in Redding specializes in community support for housing transition. The organizatio  is faith based and provides services to individuals just out of incarceration or residential treatment.  experiencing homelessness.

I received a tip yesterday that the owners are in the process of buying the Days Inn Eureka.

This is not the only post I have done on the Royal Inn but it is the last one and relevant to this post. That post has some links but not links to the lawsuit I have been covering about Royal Inn that has only been covered by me.

For those who do not want to read that post, here is the text:

Two years after the City of Eureka shut down the Royal Inn located on 5th Street in Eureka, I was the only one to follow upon it and once again today, news reported her first. I did two posts in 2022 about the owners getting fined $381,300 and stop work orders being issued. Since then SNPM Hotels LLC has obtained permits and has been doing construction, clean up and painting. I walk by there regularly on my way to the Courthouse.

After rejecting multiple offers for the property including the City of Eureka, the owners informed the County "they are ready to accept people." The statement in quotes is not the exact words from the owners but my sources.

The County as in housing vouchers and DHHS placements. Royal Inn is slated to open soon. I have contacted both DHHS Director Connie Beck and Fourth District Supervisor Natalie Arroyo. Supervisor Arroyo did promptly and briefly respond and referred me to Director Beck for exact timing.

On 10/3, Christine  Messinger from the DHHS Communications Group provided the following information.

"DHHS did receive an email that the Royal Inn is going to reopen, and we have notified our staff who work with clients in temporary housing situations. Our understanding is that it has been completely remodeled. Clients who are eligible for our CalWORKs Temporary Housing Assistance program are provided with funds to pay for their accommodations. It is a set number of nights and a set amount per night. They money is added to their EBT card, and they can take it out in cash to pay for their accommodations. We don’t place these clients into specific motels, it is one of their choosing or maybe a friend has a room they can rent for a time. If Royal Inn is in their budget and chooses to rent to them, that is great."
