Newsom provides $131 million to local communities to clear homeless encampments; Humboldt to receive $3,784,294

California Governor Gavin Newsom's office has provided "18 local communities with nearly $131 million to help people experiencing homelessness in dangerous encampments — with robust new accountability requirements and expectations for local governments. Governor Newsom is also creating a collaborative program between the state and targeted communities to streamline the cleanup of encampments."

"Expanding the state’s unprecedented support for local communities to create new housing and address homelessness, Governor Newsom today announced the state is awarding $130.7 million to 18 local governments to clear homeless encampments and provide shelter, care, and support. The Governor also announced new accountability measures, requiring award recipients to adhere to all state housing and homeless laws — as well as remain in compliance with their Housing Elements — or risk losing funding and face other enforcement actions."

Instead of running another Newsom's lengthy press release which can be read online, I have reached out to the City of Eureka, Eureka Police Department and the County of Humboldt for comment or more information. County PIO Cati Gallardo has forwarded my inquiry to DHHS. Eureka Manager Miles Slattery got back to me and said as far as he knows, Eureka isn't getting any of this money unless Yurok Housing Authority gets some of the funding. He said Arcata House applied for funding but I am going to wait until the County gets back to me before I contact them.

DHHS Communications spokesperson Christine Messinger, "The Humboldt Housing & Homelessness Coalition (Humboldt County’s Continuum of Care) authorized SoHum Housing Opportunities (SHO) and Arcata House Partnership (AHP) to apply for this round of Encampment Resolution Funding on its behalf. The SHO award for nearly $3.5 million was announced months ago with the window 1 awards. This window 2 award, announced today, is going to AHP."
