Stalking and criminal threats suspect Analia Martinez had two cases on calendar on 4/12. In one case, she is represented by the Public Defender and in another case by Ms. Kathleen Bryson. Her case with the PD was on for arraignment on information and the other case for pre trial.

The 4/16 hearing is just one of the uneccesary hearings typical of Judge Joyce Hinrich's mismanagement and constant continuances days and weeks on multiple cases by certain Humboldt judges like her and the backlog created by her, ousted, incompetent Kreis and how Humboldt Superior Court admin inefficiently operates. This creates more work for everyone else including court staff and attorneys for years. Judge Hinrichs failed the alleged victims, the DAs office, the alleged victims attorney, me and the public on 4/12.

After my last post, Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer requested remand. Judge Hinrichs refused to remand Analia Martinez and wanted a written declaration. Did Judge Hinrichs not read the files or look at the serious charges in these two cases? Judge Hinrichs has more access to a persons record than the media and public and she thumbed her nose at the DA demanding a police statement of continuing harassment and declaration. There is enough on the record including a recent preliminary hearing where Analia Martinez was held to answer on all charges which Judge Hinrichs chose to ignore. Why?

Had this been a male defendant or another female defendant who is a frequent flier, I doubt the outcome would be the same. Anyone else arrested as many times as Analia Martinez and for repeat charges would have been remanded. The protective order is for local attorney Laurence Ross who represents Analia's ex in a family law case. That was not a red flag for Judge Hinrichs?

Judge Hinrichs setting another hearing on 4/16 instead of ordering Martinez be taken into custody is sending a message to clueless, defiant Analia Martinez that her behavior is okay.

I was told Mr. Ross is withdrawing from representing Analia Martinez' ex who is an alleged victim in the criminal case. This after three years of being the attorney on the family law case and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out why. He is the alleged victim in Count 4 of the information Analia Martinez was arraigned on 4/12.

The way Hinrichs handled this hearing is typical of the mismanagement when she was presiding judge. Humboldt Superior Court administration can spin all the excuses they want but courts have been short staffed and more backlogged because of because former Presiding Judge Hinrichs and current Presiding Judge Gregory Kreis are power hungry and incompetent. Sit in any other coutroom with a busy calendar and watch other current Humboldt judges or Retired Judge Marilyn Miles, Retired Judge John Feeney, Mendocino Judge Ann Moorman and you can see the difference.

I reported on April 17, 2023 Judge Hinrichs has an understanding and has expressed a wish that her position be filled via appointment and not election. Judge Hinrichs re-election year is 2026. Judge Hinrichs wants her position appointed and stated this in a meeting. She may then chose to retire early. Is there an arrangement by certain judges and others in the Humboldt legal community to lobby the legislature to change current law? That is what is required for Hinrich's deal to be valid. The last appointment which was for ousted Gregory Kreis has been a disaster. The public deserves to elect who we want and not have special legal interests put someone in with backroom deals.

Former Humboldt County Public Defender Jennifer Dixon is one of the contenders being mentioned among those who would be appointed with this deal Judge Hinrichs is trying to broker.

Judge Hinrichs needs to go asap and her salary, Humboldt would be better spent paying retired or visiting judges. In 2026, voters need to elect a law and order and a competent judge who is not cozying up to the Humboldt good ole boys including tribal connections made as a result of a judicial position and the local lawyers cabal. The cabal is responsible for the disaster that is Kreis and the selective Humboldt injustice at 825 5th Street, 2nd floor on a daily basis. Judge Hinrichs is related to good ole boy Travis Schneiders' wife and that connection means the Bodes, the Bongios and more good ole Humboldt good ole boys and gals.

The CA Judicial Council should be disbanded because they do absolutely nothing and there is no oversight of dollars spent; at least not in Humboldt courts or we would not have had former Humboldt Superior Court CEO Kerri Keenan, the sudden resignation of former Humboldt Superior Court CEO Kim Bartleson, convicted sex offender and former court mediator Joe Hale, convicted child molestor and former court clerk John Beideman and scandal ridden Gregory Kreis. The voters who ousted Kreis and those who exposed him have done more than the so called state agencies who are supposed to watch out for the people.

Analia Martinez's cases are scheduled on 4/16 for prohibited person's report, trial confirmation and pretrial on 8/1 and jury trial and pre trial on 8/19.

4/16: I was in the courtroom today and was able to document details not in the court minutes.

Judge Hinrichs said probation ran a records check. There are no firearms in the registered to Analia Martinez. No firearms listed in the police report.

Deputy Public Defender Emery Welton said, "Ms. Martinez does not possess any firearms. Analia Martinez had to swear under oath. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer said she filed a motion for remand yesterday and an order for shortening time. Judge Hinrichs said she denied it because "it was two inches thick" and opposing counsel needs time. "I understand people's concerns if things are going on in the community,"said Judge Hinrichs. The rest I could not hear between court bailiff Leslie Borges talking to attorneys and Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada shuffling papers and talking to Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo.

Judge Hinrichs is whining about reading paperwork the DA filed to protect the community from a repeat offender. So what do we pay her for? Lunches and schmoozing? Every other judge preps. Lazy Hinrichs and Kreis only work when they have to, both prefer the juvenile calendar which is light. Judge Hinrichs can retire and have one of her good ole boy or gal connections pay her for some cushy job.

Deputy DA Schaffer has to file the paperwork again which she said she will today. No date for when that motion will be heard. Deputy Public Defender Welton asked about addressing the issue that Ms. Bryson is the attorney on Analia Martinez's case. Judge Hinrichs did not address it and made him appear specially.

4/17: Ms. Schaffer filed the motion to remand Analia Martinez into custody. Hearing on that motion is on 5/1.
