Two Feathers Native American Family Services became Humboldt County’s first Native American Organizational Provider of specialty mental health services following approval of a services agreement with the Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS). The Board of Supervisors approved the agreement on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
Two Feathers will provide mental health, therapeutic behavioral and intensive home-based services to Medi-Cal eligible children in Humboldt County through 2021. Services will be based on a client’s needs and may include crisis intervention, group therapy and individual and family therapy.
Two Feathers Executive Director Blair Kreuzer said, “We are excited to partner with DHHS to expand the services we can offer in the community. Being able to bill Medi-Cal will ensure that we can sustain these important services for the benefit of our community over the long term.”
DHHS Mental Health operates the county’s Mental Health Plan. The Mental Health branch works with qualified specialty mental health providers on referrals of Medi-Cal beneficiaries to ensure they have a choice of appropriate providers.
DHHS Director Connie Beck said, “Becoming certified as an Organizational Provider is a long and difficult process, and we’ve been working together on this for quite a while. Humboldt County continues to expand services to underserved populations, including our tribal communities. I can’t say enough how important this is and how grateful we are for the partnership.”
Two Feathers is a tribally chartered nonprofit of the Big Lagoon Rancheria established to provide direct social services and promote the stability and security of Native American families with a focus on protecting the best interests of children. Two Feathers is providing a great service to the Native community. My daughter was hired as 1 of the new mental health counselors.
