City of Eureka will suspend water/sewer shutoffs for non-payment until further notice

On March 19th, the City of Eureka activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in response to the ongoing COVID-19 Public Health Order.

The EOC brings City departments together working with Humboldt County Office of Emergency Services to set objectives along with interagency coordination, information sharing, decision making and response.

The EOC will remain active throughout the COVID-19 health emergency and meet regularly to manage and respond to the changing situation.

The City of Eureka will be suspending water/sewer shutoffs for non-payment until further notice. The waiving of late fees is another way the City is trying to offset the hardships felt by citizens and businesses.

Utility customers can contact the Finance Department to arrange a payment plan for overdue accounts up to one year from the close of the Emergency Operations period.  The Finance Department will continue to take water/sewer payments during this time.

The most convenient method for payments will be through the City’s website and by phone:

• Website address: https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/eurekaca/utilities
Credit & debit card payments only

• (707) 441-4267
Credit & debit card payments only

If you need to make a cash transaction, you have two options: 1. Drop box payments: 6th Street entrance to City Hall. A receipt can be mailed by request.  2. In person payments by appointment only. To make an appointment, please call 707-601-5853

Building/Planning/Encroachment Permits – Appointments will be required to meet with staff regarding permitting.  Please call 707-441-4144 and you will be transferred to the appropriate person.

The Humboldt County Shelter in Place (SIP) Order designates essential businesses and activities in the County and City. City staff will be reaching out to businesses that must adhere to the County of Humboldt SIP order and provide guidance and education regarding their operation.

As part of the SIP order, outdoor open space parks in the City including the waterfront trail remain open to the public as long as individuals practice social distancing. All playgrounds within City parks are closed.

All City employees are currently working with some employees reassigned to assist in the COVID-19 response to support the efforts to combat COVID-19 and its spread. Public Safety continues to be fully operational and has enhanced patrol in areas with closed businesses to help keep on eye on all businesses particularly closed ones.
