"Enforcement of these orders will be completed by law enforcement officers; however, discretion will allow for the spirit of the law to be factored in every contact"

With the recent orders to Shelter in Place from the Humboldt County Health Officer and Governor Gavin Newsom, I realize there will be several questions and concerns regarding enforcement of these orders.

The Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to providing the highest level of service to the public.

These orders have been implemented to comply with the directions and guidelines being distributed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the California Department of Public Health and the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health branch.

We are asking for your voluntary compliance with this order to help us slow the transmission of COVID-19 and allow our dedicated medical personnel to be able to better manage the critical cases that may arise in Humboldt County. Additionally, I encourage you to continue practicing social distancing in your homes and in the community when taking care of essential business.

It is crucial that we take these steps to protect our friends, loved ones, and fellow community members.

Enforcement of these orders will be completed by law enforcement officers; however, discretion will allow for the spirit of the law to be factored in every contact.

I am encouraging all persons to review the Humboldt County Health Officer’s Order in its entirety.  Many questions and concerns will be answered upon reading this order.
