More than two years later, Richard Dean charged with homicide, has yet to have his preliminary hearing

Setting of a new preliminary hearing for Richard Dean and status of doctor's evaluations was scheduled for January 3.  By stipulation, it was continued to January 24 at 10:15.

Dean was charged with the murder of a 52 year old in Arcata in October 2015. Criminal proceedings were suspended; Dean went to Napa.

He was deemed competent to stand trial in March 2017; then in October he added an additional plea of not guilty by insanity.

Not listing all the reasons, each hearing and setting was continued for more than two years. Since Ms. Kelly Neel, who was representing him is now a Judge, expect a few more continuances.

Each hearing in this case may not be a big deal to you but it is to the victim's family as well as the defendant's family.
Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is prosecuting the case.
