It is not just multiple continuances; but the same reason at more than one hearing, in cases with court appointed attorneys it costs taxpayers

Stalking and criminal threats suspect has several open cases. Ken Bareilles is his latest attorney. There have been discussions about a resolution.

If you want details on the four cases, you will have to check prior coverage and wait until I can add more. There are several cases on this morning simultaneously as well as trials and preliminary hearings to cover today.

I have been covering Miller since 2012. Links to all previous coverage provided.

On 5/7, all cases continued to 5/15 by defense for same reason; "discussing resolution."

Miller has private court appointed attorneys so every continuance costs tax payers money.

I just added an update in the previous post for Hunter Taula-Sanson and besides several continuances for months; the same reason given in February was given in May.

5/15/26: Mr. Bareilles made the same request for a continuance for setting of preliminary hearing because "discussing resolutions" and said he had made an offer to Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer.

Ms. Schaffer said she had been recently assigned to the case. Defense wanted a global resolution for "the number of trailing misdemeanors". She needed to discuss with "the victim in the domestic violence case."

Humboldt Superior Court Judge Steven Steward said, "The Court will set a preliminary hearing since it has been several months since arraignment, Mr. Miller is in custody" and he said there have been a number of times ongoing resolutions have been mentioned. Preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 30.
