No other local media has covered this lawsuit filed by GreenLeaf Nurseries LLC et al vs County of Humboldt.
Janssen Malloy was representing Greenleaf Nurseries. No attorney was present on 3/16/26 with Emily Talentino and Sean Trainor.
Mitchell Law Firm is representing defendants County of Humboldt HCSO, Sheriff William Honsal and HCSO deputies Shane Steele, Chad Crotty, Conan Moore and Nick Carnahan.
If you read my blog regularly, you will remember another settlement involving Deputy Moore. If you read my blog, I have done a few posts on Moore about lawsuits, settlements, excessive force and being involved in other OIS.
HCSO and the County throw away taxpayer dollars by refusing to hold a few repeat offender deputies accountable. Moore is not the only one. HCSO is well aware who needs to go yet they continue to employ certain people. The excuse of short staffing does not cut it for what the cost is to the public and decent deputies. The other deputies who use the back the blue no matter what excuse and all the small town cliquey buds are responsible for an entire law enforcement agency suffering. The Humboldt Deputy Sheriff's Organization needs to step up and hold their own accountable. Border Czar Tom Homan stated the same about a few bad apples effect on an entire agency. We have lost so many decent and experienced people at HCSO and EPD because of these issues.
Since I moved here, I have most vocal and pro law enforcement and that continued with my blog but I have seen too many good men and women leave because of the same Humboldt bs that all decent people face, including me. I have had people who I defended and stood up for turn on me and betray me. Being pro law enforcement or law order does not mean overlooking flaws. So, anyone pissed at this post can look in the mirror. I don't compromise my principles for anyone.
There was a case management conference on 3/16/26. Greenleaf Nurseries rejected current offer by County of Humboldt. Continuance requested to discuss settlement. Another case management is scheduled for 6/5/26.
