1,000 jurors summoned for Logan Brewer-Hearst jury trial; 33 show up and 11 are not available tomorrow

I have been the only one reporting on convicted felon Logan Brewer-Hearst's 2024 drug and firearm  case. After many continuances, twists and intervention this morning, the jury trial scheduled for today faces yet another challenge. Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor. Deputy Conflict Counsel RJ Leohner is Brewer Hearst's current attorney. Defense subpoenaed jail records on 3/16. A 1,000 jurors were summoned for today; 33 showed up and 11 are not available tomorrow. There is a hearing on 4/3 on a defense motion to strike prior conviction and Readiness Conference.

The jury trial was continued to 4/13. Conflict Counsel disqualified Huumboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum. The trial has been assigned to Judge Steven Steward. More details in court minutes.

Brewer-Hearst has been in the system for years. The screenshots above have links to all prior coverage. Here are two other screenshots over the posts I have done over the years on Brewer-Hearst.

Brewer-Hearst is yet another offender who started in the system at a young age, has been given chances, has an attitude and needs to face consequences. Yet, another Humboldt repeat offender taking up a bed in jail instead of being grateful the Humboldt DA is even willing to make an offer and clogging up court resources and time.

4/3/26: Defense motion to strike prior conviction and Readiness conference continued by stipulation to 4/6.

4/6/26: Defense motion to strike prior conviction and Readiness conference continued again to 4/10.

4/10/26: Defense motion to strike prior conviction will be heard before trial because of court's impacted calendar. The jury trial is scheduled for 4/13.

4/13/26: Jury trial and defense motion to strike prior conviction continued to 4/14 because no judge and no courtroom available. Continued again to 4/28 by stipulation for Readiness Conference; jury trial on 5/4.
