Before 5 p.m. HCSO serves a search warrant near the Courthouse, EPD has the most calls for service including at least 5 in 5 minutes

HCSO served a search warrant on the 800 block of 4th street around 3:11 p.m. That is near the Courthouse.

Between 3:52 and 3:57 p.m. today, Eureka Police Department responded to at least 5 calls. Then, between 4:35 and 4:45 p.m. EPD was dispatched to at least 5 calls for service. Most of the calls today are EPD.

These are not even all the calls for today before 5 p.m..

“For six months, California National Guard troops have been used as political pawns by a President desperate to be king:

(President Trump's response)

California Attorney General Rob Bonta issued the following statement just now. This is the headline and summary.

"Attorney General Bonta Marks Major Litigation Victory as Trump Administration Backs Away from Its Efforts to Federalize and Deploy California National Guard"

"Following Supreme Court decision, Trump Administration withdraws motion to stay, allows lower court order ending the extended federalization of the California National Guard to go fully into effect."

I would rather deal with PG & E directly instead of RCEA

In Humboldt, delivery is through Redwood Coast Energy Authority so not sure how this PG & E decrease affects local customer.

One third of my bill is RCEA. California is expensive; add to that the cost of Humboldt and it isn't a mystery why most people struggle living in this area.

The PG & E press release is lengthy so here is relevant information. For those who like summaries, the press release is about $7 less per month for most people. Call RCEA and PG & E with questions.

EPD officer Whitchurch was off duty in the Pine Hill area at the time of his arrest; several minors were in the vehicle

Just spoke with CHP Humboldt Public Information & Recruitment Officer and Court Liaison Officer Jason Esselman about the arrest of EPD Officer James Whitchurch.

"On December 24, 2025, at approximately 2110 hours, CHP Humboldt Area responded to a call for service within the unincorporated area of Eureka (Pine Hills). Upon arrival, CHP Officer B. Berry contacted James Michael Whitchurch. Officer B. Berry conducted a driving under the influence investigation and determined Whitchurch operated a 2016 Honda Pilot while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and Whitchurch was placed under arrest under suspicion of DUI. Through Officer B. Berry’s investigation, it was discovered Whitchurch had several minors within the vehicle at the time of the violation. Whitchurch was transported to the Humboldt County Jail where he was booked without further incident. Whitchurch was not on duty at the time of the violation or arrest."

The investigation is ongoing. Whitchurch is out of custody. When the Humboldt DA receives the report, they will review and if they decide to file charges. If they charge misdemeanors, it could take months before anything is filed. The case could resolve before any formal charges are filed.

Another repeat offender known to EPD arrested again; more failures of misdemeanor laws and prosecution in California

(2017 booking photo)

In 2017, Eureka Police Department's POP unit arrested Brittany Marie Johnson for possession of stolen property from the Betty Kwan Chinn Center.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2017/07/daniel-gurley-pleads-guilty-in-another.html?m=1

Yesterday, EPD arrested Johnson again for PC 647 (f) public intoxication, HS 11350(a) possession of controlled substance without a valid prescription and PC 666.1 petty theft.

Johnson entered a plea in that 2017 case. I am not listing all her other court cases. Covering repeat offenders in California and for misdemeanors is a waste of time.

1/2/26: Since I was at the courthouse today checking on some cases and saw two cases for Johnson on calendar which include a 2026 case for arraignment this afternoon; I decided to do an update. Probation has filed a request to terminate supervised release in a 2025 case. In the 2026 case, she is charged with possession of fentanyl and being under the influence of toluene. Johnson was remanded into custody. Preliminary hearing in CR2502721 on1/16. Trial setting in CR2600001 on the same day. Public Defender is representing Johnson.

EPD officers have done similar acts of kindness over the years

(Screenshots from the video from Redwood Police Department)

Eureka Police Department officers have done similar acts of kindness over the years. They do it privately and I respected their wish not to publicize  what comes from their heart. This post is about the Redwood Washington Police Department.

I think the brief press statement issued by EPD Chief Stephens without a response to me first is petty, disrespectful and typical of reporting in this small County when people are caught screwing up

(EPD Facebook, Chief Stephens and Whitchurch)

(EPD Facebook)

I am the one who reported last night on EPD Officer James Whitchurch's arrest. No other media did. I put in a lot of work with no response by Eureka Police Department until 2:09.

I think the brief press statement issued by EPD Chief Stephens without a response to me first is petty, disrespectful and typical in this  small County when people are caught screwing up and there is independent reporting. No one would have heard about this arrest had I not reported on it; that is the case with a lot of news.

Another police chief would have been transparent and issued this right after the arrest. If Chief Stephens wants respect; he should start by providing it and be fair.

I did look up Whitchurch in Humboldt Superior Court. He does have different types of cases in the system. The ones that may have relevance depending on what happens are the family law and traffic cases.

Five lawsuits by Make Parking Lots Great Again against City of Eureka, the result was bupkis

I have been the only one who regularly reported for months on the status of the 4 lawsuits filed against the City of Eureka by Citizens for a Better Eureka and one by Eureka Housing for all. They lost two on appeal. Three other lawsuits had nothing happen for months; three were dismissed by CBE finally; two in October 2025. I The summary is Make Parking Lots Great Again 0, City of Eureka 5.

I am not linking all those posts. I covered these cases and losses in detail.

Despite the May 15, 2025 claim, today is 12/30/25 and there is nothing about a State Supreme Court appeal and all 4 lawsuits by CBE are moot.

Millions of dollars wasted on an incompetent out of area attorney. Rejected by the voters.

Instead of blaming everyone else and I know they don't like the truth I state; maybe the MPGA crowd should drop their attitude, look in the mirror and start thinking when they did prevail in elections and why.

I doubt there will be any self reflection, apologies or thanking people. Whether you win or lose depends on choices. The truth maybe inconvenient but those who win; put their ego aside, know how to pick people and alliances and deliver a win. Most of all winners listen to constructive criticism and not to sycophants.

The decent, hardworking conservatives in Humboldt County deserve better leadership than MPGA. There was a majority on Eureka City Council and the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. The MPGA crowd has money and power. Then, deliver results.

Out of the $50 billion investment in rural health care, CA received 233,639,308

Texas is # 1. Alaska, California, Kansas and Montana are among the top states receiving funds
from the $50 billion investment by the Trump Administration for rural health care.

California received 233,639,308. Will California Governor Gavin Newsom use it as intended?

Let's see how legacy media & Newsom's press office cover this; people can go to the WH site directly for facts & numbers.

HCSO offering $20,000 reward in the Andrea "Chick" White cold case

(White photo provided by HCSO)

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office would like to announce a $20,000 reward for information leading to the location of Andrea “Chick” White.

The reward is a combination of $15,000 from the Hoopa Valley Tribe, and $5,000 from the Bureau of Indian Affairs Missing and Murdered Unit.

Paul Hills personal injury lawsuit against City of Eureka, County of Humboldt and State of CA involves 7th street in Eureka

On December 23, I did a post about this lawsuit.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/12/two-more-lawsuits-against-city-of.html?m=1

Court documents were finally available yesterday.

Paul Hills is suing City of Eureka, County of Humboldt and State of California. Hills is represented by Torrance attorney Erica Chavez. The claims are for personal injury and general negligence.

The complaint claims that Hills was traveling on on his e-scooter "approaching the intersection" of 7th and A "when he struck a hazardous exposed pavement deformity" causing him "severe and permanent bodily injuries."

Case management conference is scheduled for 6/15/26.

When Utah has more transparency than California

When Utah has more transparency than California. The LAPD  botched the press conference about the Reiners' death. LAPD is a joke.

If the James Whitchurch arrested on Christmas Eve is the EPD officer, these are serious charges and the public deserves an answer

"Good evening,

I rather appreciate your blog and enjoy reading your articles. I wish we had more truly independent journalists like yourself. So for that, thank you for what you do. It certainly isn't unnoticed.

I wish to remain anonymous for this email but please use the contents for whatever you wish.

Mr. Chiv, over the holiday weekend I noticed something rather interesting. On 12/24/2025 James “Jimmy” Whitchurch was arrested by CHP for CVC 23152(a), CVC 23251(b) and PC 273a(b). I’m not much of a legal statue guru but a quick google search showed what those codes meant. James is an Officer for EPD and while it’s a personnel issue, the arrest itself is a matter of public record. Just found it interesting an EPD Officer would be arrested for DUI and child endangerment all the while EPD is on a driver safety mission. Seems sorta ironic given the three major traffic accidents that occurred today. "

Until I hear back from Eureka Police Department or get other verification, I cannot confirm whether the James Michael Whitchurch who was arrested by CHP on December 24, 2025 for VC 23152 (a) DUI, VC  23152 (b) blood alcohol above the legal limit and PC273a(b) wilful cruelty to a child is the EPD officer. The man arrested was released on O.R approximately five and half hours later, which the Humboldt jail does often, when the person is sober.

I want to thank the person who sent me this tip properly and provided evidence that I could look up and verify.

I received this email a few minutes ago. Due to the Ninth Circuit ruling, I cannot post the booking photo but I compared it to the photos provided to me by the person who sent the email, checked those photos myself on Facebook and the dob.

The photos match. The personal Facebook page only lists that Whitchurch works for the City of Eureka.

I have reached out to Eureka Police Chief Brian Stephens, EPD Commander Leonard LaFrance and EPD PIO Laura Montagna.

Minutes after my post, I received verification that Whitchurch is the EPD officer and have added the photos from EPD and Whitchurch's Facebook.

What do Carson Park, Jack in the Box and a judgement of $575,545 that just got vacated today have in common?

(Image from Jack in the Box Eureka website)

Jose Martinez Flores filed a lawsuit against co-worker Christopher E Cate and also sued his manager and Jack in the Box on March 20, 2024.

In the complaint, Flores' alleged that on April 19, 2022 at Carson Park, Cate assaulted him with a box cutter and hammer. Flores further alleges that from "2021 to June 2022", Flores was "constantly harassed" by fellow employee Cate. Flores "sought help" from manager Elixmaena Klan "but to no avail."

I have provided court documents which have a few more details.

Flores was represented by Yreka attorney Mr. James Johnson, thenHornbrook attorney Mr. Ronald Johnson took over the case.  Ms. Avneet Johl is representing Cate, Klan and Jack in the Box. She is an associate at the Lewis Brisbois Sacramento office.

On January 29, 2025, dismissal for Klan was granted by Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning but judgement entered against Cate and Jack in the Box for $575, 545.

Today, Judge Timothy Canning granted the motion to set aside and vacate judgement against Cate and Jack in the Box.

There is a case management conference scheduled on 3/27/26.

I would have posted the EPD press release on traffic collisions earlier but was too busy avoiding an impatient driver on Myrtle when I had right of way

By now, you have read and seen the press release and photos of traffic collisions issued by EPD Commander Leonard LaFrance at 3:18 p.m. When he sent that email to media, he said, "We’ve now had at least 3 injury traffic collisions today."

I would have posted earlier but was busy crossing on Myrtle and West at the traffic light where an impatient truck driver with tools and a ladder in his pick up almost ran me over. The pedestrian walk sign was on, I had right of way but that intersection on Myrtle has the worst drivers.

Commander LaFrance wrote an excellent press release. Too bad that the fools who need to read it; especially the last eight lines are selfish, irresponsible and endanger others.

Why was Travis Mendes back in court as a bailiff last week?

(Photo: John Chiv)

I was just told by a local attorney who knows Travis Mendes that this lawyer saw the former HCSO livestock deputy  in court last week. Any more details will identify my source.

I thought Mendes was at Cal Fire? Mendes is one of four people in a lawsuit filed by Ray Christie. The County of Humboldt and Sheriff William Honsal are two of the other parties. The fourth person is former Humboldt Deputy DA and now Deputy Public Defender Adrian Kamada.

I have emailed Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal and cced HCSO PIO Erin Inskip.

"Is this as extra help, full time? I thought he was with CALFire?"

If Mendes is back, will the taxpayers will foot his legal expenses? Mendes would be double dipping if he is extra help.

2:39 p.m. I want to thank Sheriff Honsal for his prompt response. "Travis Mendes is a full time CAL FIRE employee, however, he does work extra help as a Deputy Sheriff, assigned to the Superior Court."

Carla Pirovano arrested again, this time for stalking and drug charges

Carla Jean Pirovano was arrested again yesterday by HCSO for PC 646.9(a) stalking, HS 11364(a) possession of drug paraphernalia and HS11377(a) possession of controlled substance.

I have covered Pirovano before. The DA dismissed her previous case for criminal threats.

Pirovano was arraigned on 12/31/25; Conflict Counsel was appointed. Defense motion for release wss denied by Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Christopher Wilson; bail was set at $75,000 and two criminal protective orders served.

On 1/5, Judge Lawrence Killoran denied supervised release. Preliminary hearing on 1/13/26.

On 1/13/26, defense motion to to continue preliminary hearing granted; rescheduled to 1/30.

Partial loss for defense; partial win for media today with Judge Graf's ruling in Tyler Robinson case

(Tyler Robinson with two of his attorneys, Ms. Nester and Ms. Visser at the December 11, 2025 hearing)

Utah Fourth District Judge Tony Graf  issued his oral ruling on two motions from the 12/11/25 hearing. Judge Graf read the orders in court.

With some limited redactions, specifically related to security measures, Judge Graf just ruled & is reading his order to release the Oct 24 hearing transcript & audio in the Tyler Robinson case. Partial loss for the defense & partial win for media.

The hearing is still going on, there is one more ruling.

9:26 a.m. The hearing concluded. Judge Graf issued his decision regarding closures & when & whether press who have requested notice should be served & procedure.

Next hearing remains set as scheduled for Jan 16.

Details:

"The Court has reviewed the October 24 transcript and audio recording," said Judge Graf.

Before his ruling, Judge Graf always summarizes what happened at the last hearing which is helpful to new viewers watching the livestream or attending a hearing for the first time.

"This case has attracted extraordinary international and national interest " said Judge Graf.

In determing "whether restrictions on public access are warranted," Judge Graf said, "there are competing constitutional interests" and "the public's access is not absolute."

However, Judge Graf did not grant the motion to seal the transcript. He redacted 246 words and 80 pages out of 83 pages will be released.

"The redacted transcipt will be filed today," said Judge Graf. "The audio recording in approximately two weeks." This is to ensure all redactions are made in the audio released.

The "standing decorum order has been updated," said Judge Graf. If you read my coverage of the December 11 hearing, you know why.

Judge Graf then addressed the second motion.

"The press does not need to be party to a criminal action to pursue the public's presumptive right to access public court records," said Judge Graf. "The press has already been provided with a mechanism" under Utah Rule 4-202.04 "to protect that right and has already utilized it in this matter."

He said only the State and defense were parties in a criminal action. However, thanks to the media interveners; the lawyers who argued for the media at the December 11 hearing,  the defense and prosecution are required to give media notice of a closure motion or a request to classify or reclassify public court records to the media who made such a request.

The state and defense are not required to give notice on requests to limit electronic media coverage of a hearing or on records that are  not public.

Overall, the rulings are a bigger win for media and transparency. Every courtroom in a state is closed for certain proceedings and every judge can grant, deny or restrict what kind of media coverage is allowed by citing legal reasons for the decision.

Ken Johnson plans to sue California Department of Fish and Wildlife and I hope he wins

(Image from Ken Johnson)

This post is my belated "Christmas gift" to City of Eureka's Brian Issa whose response to me years ago when I lived on 2nd and I and suffered a similar situation with racoons in Old Town was to tell me to chalk it up to living in a rural area. Had Issa done his job when he was at Code Enforcement; I would not have to go to court where I prevailed in court against the landlord.

Old Town is full of rats, racoons damaging residences, businesses and a health and safety issues to restaurants.

I know there are some in Humboldt who agree with Issa who are welcome to go adopt all the wildlife and have their homes damaged and go live in the wild. We are in the 21st century. Land will be developed whether you like it or not.

The bigger issue is the State of California and ridiculous regulations that affect people who lost their homes in the Palisade fire and other disasters due to California's ineptness and policies. I hope this guy wins against California Department Fish and Wildlife and gets money.

It is bad enough that California has stupid policies but activists working in government makes it worse. Go start a non profit and raise funds for your cause and beliefs because as a taxpayer, the government should represent all citizens and we should not have to pay activists who should do the job they are paid to and not impose their personal beliefs like Issa.

A week ago before his death, the DA filed a criminal case against Joe Mazzotti for "revenge porn"; this in addition to the civil lawsuit from Wallace and Hinz; the petitioner in the domestic violence case which was dismissed after his death is the same "alleged " victim in the criminal case

(Pima County State Funeral home website)

On October 13, 2025, I did a post that Mazotti passed away.

While his case in family law court has been handled; Wallace and Hinz and Tom Tellez need  to make a decision about the civil case and the Humboldt County DA's office cannot prosecute someone who is dead.

There has been nothing in the 2022 Wallace and Hinz Bar  Company vs Joseph G. Mazzotti and Jean Mazotti since a bench warrant was issued for Jean Mazzotti on 11/25/24 and today is 12/28/25. I checked that case on 10/21/25 and there were no future dates. When I last spoke to Tellez and did a post, he was selling the business to a Native American owner.

On October 20, Mazzotti's domestic violence family law case was dismissed without prejudice by the alleged victim in that case who is the same person in the criminal case filed by the DA on 10/3/25. Mazotti was charged in that case with four counts of PC 647 (j) (4) (a) distributing an intimate private image. On 10/24/25, obviously Mazzotti was not at arraignment. The failure to appear resulted in a referral to the DA for affadavit.

I have included court documents.

After this post, there is no reason for me to cover Joe Mazzotti anymore. I already addressed the hateful trolls and losers who attacked me last time. If you are stupid enough to harass, stalk and attack me again for informing the community about a low life and a coward who affected local businesses and individuals, I will report to the authorities again. Death does not absolve Joe Mazzotti from his actions. What I think of him is not based just on court records. I have written previously about my interactions with him in business and personally.

There are people who have victimized Humboldt and had convictions or judgements entered, then move somewhere else and continue their behavior. I get emails from people and attorneys all over the country who find information from my Humboldt coverage.

Berry Buzzard arrested again by HCSO; this time for criminal threats, elder abuse, attempted robbery and criminal trespassing

(2020 booking photo)

You may remember Berry Chiefton Buzzard from a previous HCSO arrest in November 2020 near Blue Lake for brandishing a firearm.

Buzzard was arrested again by HCSO yesterday for PC 602.5(a) criminal trespassing, PC 664/211 attempted robbery, PC 368(b)(1) elder abuse and PC422(a) criminal threats.

The 2025 arrest was by HCSO Deputy Rondie Buzzard.

Another lawsuit filed about LA jails; defendants include the County and LA Sheriff

In September, I did a post on California Attorney General Rob Bonta suing the LA County Sheriff and County Correctional Health Services "over unconstitutional and inhumane conditions at Los Angeles County jails."

In October 2025, a federal lawsuit was filed in the Central District of California by Los Angeles Attorney Brian Dunn,  managing partner who has advocated for victims of police misconduct in the state of California.

Mr. Dunn filed this lawsuit on behalf of 38 current and former women inmates at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Defendants include LA County and LA Sheriff Robert Luna.

**There are graphic details about allegations from a lawsuit and court documents. It is your choice to read beyond this disclaimer**

I wrote a response to the Trump administration today but it applies more to Humboldt

This was a tweet today on the Trump administration Rapid Response account.

Independent journalists and citizen/watchdog groups or journalists who truly benefit the people are rare. Those who are not beholden to power, money and speak to truth are few; that is if they aren't silenced or driven out and the very people they speak up for are nowhere to be found when it matters most.

Whether it is Minnesota or California, those who report for the people, take risks and do a thankless job have faced challenges and every decade it is harder.

I responded to the tweet.

"President Trump and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt should then support independent journalists & citizens by strengthening media protections for freelancers & locals who actually do real reporting for the people. Fake News includes media on the right; not just the left."

"There is no funding for reporters risking to report news for the people. Elon Musk could promote accounts that cannot afford to compete with special interest funds & resources. It takes $ to run any business & make a living. Talk is cheap. Actions speak louder."

For 22 years I have given a lot to Humboldt; for free. Humboldt has made a choice.

Government Accountability & Oversight sues CA DOJ for "public information that the DoJ has redacted in full or part, all pertaining to the state’s participation in the climate industry’s litigation campaign."

These are just two paragraphs from Government Accountability & Oversight website and statement on this lawsuit.

Government Accountability & Oversight has filed a California Public Records Act suit against the Department of Justice to obtain public information that the DoJ has redacted in full or part, all pertaining to the state’s participation in the climate industry’s litigation campaign, its Plan B of “climate superfund” in the face of the former bogging down—requiring legislation unlikely to get off the ground outside of a few bastions of progressive-activist governance—and of course its related pivot to Plan C plastics litigation.

Government Accountability & Oversight (“Petitioner” or “GAO”) seeks several categories of non-privileged public records from the California Department of Justice (“DOJ”) regarding DOJ’s involvement in—and coordination with outside activists’ campaign of—controversial, high-profile litigation targeting the fossil fuels industry. Accordingly, each of the related requests at issue here seeks public records that reflect the "conduct of the people’s business."…

Benbrook Law Group PC from Sacramento are attorneys for Government Accountability & Oversight. On 12/22/25, a complaint for declaratory and injunctive relief and verified petition for writ of mandate for violations of the California Public Records Act and California Constitution, Art. I. Section 3,  was filed in Sacramento Superior Court.

"Plaintiff GAO is a Wyoming nonprofit organization that pursues and supports litigation to ensure that governmental entities at state, local, and federal levels comply with their sunshine and transparency obligations under open records laws."

CA dismissal of challenge to Trump administration withdrawing $4 billion for high speed rail reported by very few media

This week California dismissed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration withdrawing  $4 billion for CA's long-delayed high-speed rail project. It was reported by very few media oulets, some waited until today. Who you get your news from matters. Who you fund matters.

Live, original content by independent, individual journalists who report all news for the people and not selective coverage.

Instead of abandoning the boondoggle, California is seeking state funding and private investment.

Another lawsuit settlement between Eureka Natural Foods and a former employee

(SOS website)

(SOS website)

On December 16 2025, I did a post on a class action settlement between Connie Parks vs Northwest Investment Co and Eureka Natural Foods.

https://johnchiv.blogspot.com/2025/12/eureka-natural-foods-settles-class.html?m=1

In the December 16, 2025 post, according to a former employee, Littlefield no longer owns ENF and sold it to a manager. I looked up what was listed on the California Secretary of State website.

That was not the only lawsuit filed in 2023 against Eureka Natural Foods. Rick Littlefield is listed in court documents. This lawsuit was  filed by former employee Sierra Brody. It settled and then a dismissal was filed. Lawsuit claims involved disability discrimination and other FEHA violations.

Brody was represented by Mr. Sean Shahabi of the Jaurigue Law Firm which is in Glendale, California. ENF was represented by Janssen Malloy's Mr. Patrik Griego.

In Newsom's California, breaking the law repeatedly has no consequences

Former Deputy County Counsel Karen Roebuck was one of the three candidates who wanted to be appointed to Retired Humboldt Judge Hinrich's seat

It was on March 2025, that I mentioned three names being considered as replacements for Retired Judge Joyce Hinrich's vacant seat in Humboldt Superior Court.

In my November 25, 2025 post, I said stay tuned for more scoops regarding local judicial positions.

On November 26, 2025, Humboldt Superior Coury Commissioner Sarah Kaber said if Governor Gavin Newsom does not make an appointment for Retired Judge Hinrich's seat, she plans to run for that position.

I have written more than once why Commissioner Kaber is the obvious choice for appointment by Governor Newsom's Office. Humboldt Presiding Judge Kelly Neel, bailiffs, court staff, many local attorneys agree with me. Commissioner Kaber has proved on the job why she deserves this position.

This post includes updates since the November posts.

The third candidate is not a current Humboldt Deputy Conflict Counsel but a former Deputy Conflict Counsel Karen Roebuck. She now works for the Mitchell Law Firm.

Cass Bell's bail bond exonerated; still no charges filed for November 3 arrest

I just did a post on December 12 where Humboldt District Attorney Stacey Eads and DA Chief Investigator Kyla Baxley both said Cass Bell's case was being reviewed.

In my November 17  post, I already wrote that I doubt that charges would be filed and even if they were, what the outcome would be.

I was the first one to report about Bell's November 3 arrest for PC 245(a)(4) assault likely to produce great bodily injury. I have been the only one to cover Bell before.

Since his arrest, I have regularly checked on the case and no charges have been filed. Today, I confirmed that Bell's bail bond has been exonerated.

This week due to holiday closures and several people at the DA's office not in this week; I have reached out to Bell if he has received a dismissal and I will follow up with the DA's office on Monday. Checked with the DA's office on 12/29 and the case has not been dismissed. Status remains unchanged.

As I said previously, until the DA makes a decision whether charges have been filed or not; I am not going to write what I have known about the arrest, the alleged victim, other parties in the case or how this has impacted Bell.

Andrew Matson turned himself in to be booked yesterday on a Ramey warrant for criminal threats

20 year old Andrew Tye Matson turned himself in at the Humboldt County jail yesterday to be booked on a Ramey warrant for PC 422 criminal threats. It is for a 2025 case and there is no information on this warrant in e court yet, I will update later which arresting agency issued the warrant. Bail is $25,000.

His dob confirms he is the same Andrew Matson written about in Redding and Shasta County.

He has a 2025 civil harassment case in which a restraining order was granted, a traffic case and a 2024 criminal case.

12/29/25: Matson was on the must go list for 12/26. No charges were filed yet because the DA has not received a report from whatever agency issued the warrant, nothing is filed so I have no way to follow up. Matson was released from the jail.

"If the plaintiff's goal is to preserve vital time and resources of the Court," Curt, you should start with your filings, emails and show up for court

(Linkedin)

Curt, if you want to save the Court time and resources show up for court. I know you,I have had my experiences with Leibert, Cassidy and Whitmore, a law firm both the City of Eureka and County of Humboldt hire and pay with taxpayer dollars. I have consulted with attorneys about LCW on a few matters.

Both you and LCW failed to show up at the last court hearing wasting Humboldt Superior Court Presiding Judge Kelly Neel's time, court resources and took time away from others who could have used it that day. Readers can read the court documents in this post and prior coverage themselves and see the email exchanges between you and LCW.

I have known City of Eureka Manager Miles Slattery for years and know many mentioned in Brandey Wheeler's lawsuit.

Curt, we have spoken about Miles. I know what you think of him. Those who read my previous posts after you were let go know what you think of him.

I find it very interesting that without a hearing or any explaination, you filed a partial dismissal against Miles Slattery. Something lawyers asked me and I have provided a screenshot for readers. One lawyer gave me one reason for that dismissal against Miles and it further reiterates that despite your bragging; you are a lawyer without a clue.

Why should anyone believe you or any allegations about Jeff Davis or Uplift or any of the alleged claims in Wheeler's lawsuit?

There hasn't even been a single hearing on this case and in your own words, in your August 18, 2025 email, you are filing a First Amended Complaint to address "alleged deficiencies." You already had to dismiss certain causes of action. So what research and vetting did you do before filing this lawsuit?

As much as I don't care for LCW and think there are more competent law firms, you have zero credibility with me Curt and it is based on what you told me in the past, what you could not prove and because you were not honest with me.

In my July 2025 post, this was the headline. "If lack of disclosure/working on Sparks vs Joachim while employed with the City of Eureka was not part of the reason for Curtis Davis' termination; all he had to do is send me a brief written response."

As another reader pointed out, how are you getting all these cases from people employed or disgruntled with the City of Eureka. How much of what you know about City of Eureka while you were employed there is  in this lawsuit? Do you have any clients that do not involve the City of Eureka?

One does not have to be a rocket scientist to figure out you may sue the City of Eureka yourself. You could settle privately and no one would know.

This is a small community. Conflicts of interest gets thrown around a lot and applied selectively. You have an axe to grind with the City of Eureka. A very obvious and blatant conflict.

Regardless of whether the allegations in the Wheeler lawsuit have merit or not; having you as an attorney is a disadvantage to Wheeler.

I haven't even included all the emails attached to LCW Ethan Wicklund's declaration because after a point, it was more of the same bs.

I was the first one to report on Davis being terminated by the City of Eureka. I am and was the only one to provide other exclusives about him previously and once again with court records from this lawsuit. I am the only one to report on several lawsuits, including the one filed by Brandey Wheeler against the City of Eureka and the first to report on them.

This does not mean I think Liebert, Cassidy, Whitmore have the advantage. Besides  threatening me for their screw up, they have not impressed me with their legal knowledge and LCW also did not show up for court.

I am not linking previous posts on Davis or Liebert, Cassidy, Whitmore. Most readers read me daily and regularly. Others can use the search feature to access for posts. As I have said many times, the freebies for 12 years are over. You want convenience in addition to time consuming and exclusive content; pay for it.

Since this post is on Wheeler's lawsuit, this is a link to the previous post.

A reader told me during Ray Christie's 2018 case, "what they are really after is Ray's land" and this eminent domain lawsuit makes one wonder

The last post I did on People of State of Califirnia vs Raymond Christie, Jennifer Christie et al was in September.

At that time, the only future date scheduled was a case management conference on 2/23/26. I have learned with As the Humboldt Superior Court Turns, check cases of interest and check them regularly.

Since that last post, there is a hearing scheduled on 4/3/26 for an order requested by the State of California granting possession against occupants.

In addition to that, there is an ex parte hearing today on this application by the State of California that I have also included in this post . There was also a declaration by Abigail Fish.

There is hearing on 1/30/26 for the State's request for order for possession.

Silverio Parro Snider Sanchez resolves latest case on the day of his jury trial

(2021 booking photo)

On Friday, December 19, I checked and jury trial for convicted felon Silverio Parro Snider Sanchez and his PRCS hearing were confirmed for 12/22/25.

Yesterday, Sanchez entered a plea. He admitted the post release community supervision violation.

Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees appeared on the case for the People. When Mr. Rees made the offer to resolve the case before Humboldt Superior Court Judge Kaleb Cockrum, Sanchez rejected the offer. Mr. Rees withdrew the offer.

The case was sent to Judge Steven Steward. Sanchez's custody status was changed to no bail. Sanchez later entered a conditional plea with a tentative from the Court to no additional jail time. As a convicted felon, Sanchez is prohibited from possessing firearms or body armor for life.

Sanchez pleaded guilty to Count 2 criminal threats. The People dismissed Count 1 and 3.

Sentencing is on 1/16/26

Maybe, private attorney Mr. Ken Bareilles should be appointed more often when there is a conflict with public defenders. This is a repeat career criminal and instead of dragging out cases for months like certain public defenders and private attorneys on the conflict panel and racking up expenses paid by taxpayers, the case resolved quickly.

Two more lawsuits against City of Eureka; one by local attorney Delman Smith

Told you more lawsuits were being filed against the City of Eureka. Both were recorded in Humboldt Superior Court on 12/19/25. There are no details or documents scanned into e court and it can take a week or more for documents in civil cases.

The first lawsuit is by local attorney Delman Smith and his wife Hazel Smith against the City of Eureka and County of Humboldt. They have hired Zwerdling Law Firm. Mr. Richard Dalrymple is listed as their attorney.

I wonder from the law firm the Smith's hired and it being listed in the tort category, if it is probably related to the criminal case I covered.

The other case is Paul Hills against City of Eureka, County of Humboldt and State of California. Also a tort case. Hills is represented by Ms Erica Chavez. She is an attorney from Torrance and also represents clients in personal injury cases.

Both lawsuits have case management conferences scheduled for 6/15/26.

The objections filed by St. Joe's on December 10 to the amended appendix of evidence are far more interesting than the same ole arguments at every hearing the lawsuit filed by the State of California

I added my 12/10/25 update in the State of California's lawsuit against St. Joe's to my previous post. I did not attend the I did not hearing in person because I had a feeling Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning would take the matter under submission He did. The arguments basically are the same at every hearing. There was also a motion to seal requested by the State of California.

I was waiting for certain documents filed on 12/10/25 to be added to e court and they finally were when I checked the case yesterday. With civil cases in Humboldt Superior Court, that is typical.

I also checked to see if Humboldt Superior Court Judge Timothy Canning had issued a ruling. I would be surprised if there is one before the end of the year. There are a lot of documents in this case, there is a stipulation in place until his ruling and future dates are in October 2026.

There are several other civil cases that more urgently affect people in Eureka and Humboldt than this one case which is political in motivation.

The Humboldt elected officials showing up for soundbytes in this case have been a dismal failure in improving healthcare or getting more health care professionals in Humboldt County. If they did their job, people living in Humboldt. would have another option besides St. Joe's. They are the same failed leadership who cater to their minority elites and employ and enable sycophants but haven't moved this county forward in the 22 years I have been here.
