Steven George Edwards arrested for lewd acts with a minor

 

Steven George Edwards was arrested yesterday by Rio Dell Police Department Corporal Crystal Landry for two counts of PC 288(a) lewd or lascivious acts with a minor under the age of 14. Google search shows Edwards was arrested in June 2024.

7/26: Edwards was arraigned this afternoon. The DA has charged Edwards with one count of PC 288.5 (a), continuous sexual abuse. The complaint alleges Edwards unlawfully engaged in three or more acts of substantial sexual conduct with Jane Doe who is under the age of 14 while he resided and had recurring access to the child.

He also has another 2024 open case filed in June 2024. In that case, he is charged with PC 243 (e) (1) domestic battery and PC 273.6 (a) violation of a court order.

Edwards has a Fortuna address in e court for the July arrest; a Rio Dell address for the June 2024 case.

In CR2402267, the July case, Public Defender's office was appointed. Bail set at $180,000 by Judge Lawrence Killoran. OR bail on 7/30; preliminary hearing on 8/6. In CR2401867, the June case, OR/bail on 7/30; previously scheduled date for trial confirmation are 9/5; jury trial 9/16.

7/30: In CR2402267, Judge Lawrence Killoran denied supervised release and Edward's status was changed to no bail.

8/2: Defense motion for reconsideration of pretrial detention & objections to pretrial detention filed was denied by Judge Lawrence Kiloran due to safety concerns for victim, public and seriousness of offenses. Protective orders filed and served in court.

8/6: Preliminary hearing for July case 

continued by defense to 8/30 because assigned deputy public defender is in trial.

8/30: Preliminary hearing continued by defense to 9/20. Dates vacated in other 2024 case which is trailing this case.

9/20: Instead of going forward with his preliminary hearing in CR2402267, Edwards entered a plea. Sentencing is on 11/22. CR2401867 was dismissed.
